We recently connected with April Cook and have shared our conversation below.
April, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
My parents raised me to be upright. To treat the janitor the same as the CEO. My dad never really disciplined me he always had long meaningful conversations. Saying and I quote “ A spanking only lasts a minute, but the wisdom I instill in you will be forever”. He was right, I can always relate back to the wisdom when I need it, or fall short. Rest In Eternal Peace to my mom, Norma J. Carrigan.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those who don’t know, I got into real estate and coaching from my own personal experiences. I genuinely love helping people, this is where I’m most fulfilled. Suffering from anxiety and depression myself, and coming from a generation where we just had to “TAKE THAT”. It is a must that I break generational curses. That’s from financial literacy to mental health. I help people in making one of the most important decisions made in life, and that’s becoming a home owner. I assist people with bringing forth their true selves in coaching, and I motivate millions by speaking at public, motivational, and uplifting events.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My Testimony: I’m a serial entrepreneur, so when things don’t go my way, I move around. This time it was different, I promised God if he gave me the tools to be successful, I would be consistent and I would ride it out. Boy did he have a plan for me. For 2 years I watched agents around me be more than successful, while I did nothing. However I clapped and cheered for their wins as if they were my own. I contemplated quitting several times , but my broker made sure I didn’t with encouraging words, and even purchasing me a APPLE LAPTOP because she saw my determination and how bad I really wanted this. (Shout out to Krystal Hamilton) After my second year I sold my first home. My client came with a 830 credit score and 125k down. Now 98% of my clients come from word of mouth. Im transparent and very honest with my clients and I am grateful people choose me for simply being myself.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience which is over 11k on Facebook by staying in consumers faces. Post your content, even if they are not liking they are looking. Purchase ads, place yourself in groups. Make sure you are posting at least 5 times a day, Even if it’s the same post, someone didn’t see it. Schedule your post for the week, this helps me a lot, especially when I’m super busy. I also have a content creator who is great at what she does. Shout out to (LaMarion “Sue” Patterson.
