We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful App Juke. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with App below.
App , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
It’s not necessarily my first dollar earned as a creative, but the most impactful. Lately, I’ve collaborated with a friend, Sweet Sammy Beats, on commercial/tv work. Our job is to make music that evokes whatever emotion or mood the scene needs. One of the songs we worked on landed on two Tyler Perry Productions, All The Queens Men and Sistas. I learned about the placement when I received the payment for the usage of the song at the time. This dollar earned was impactful because of New Orleans, Louisiana. That is the shared hometown of Tyler Perry and me. I grew up with his stage plays as a staple in my household. My grandmother is a fan of his, so it meant so much to have something she’ll watch feature me.

App , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is App Juke. I’m an alternative rapper and artist. I love telling stories and evoking emotions in my songs through personal and shared experiences. I released an album in 2021, Manic, and am currently working on the follow-up. I’ll be releasing singles in the Fall/Winter until my sophomore project’s release. I ventured into performing and showcasing my solo work through open mics and networking. I’ve expanded my career recently by working on music for television and commercials. My ultimate goal as an artist is to utilize my gift in natural and diverse ways.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is simply the ability to create. The first song I professionally recorded left me amazed at the fact that I was able to express myself so openly. They’re no bounds in art except the ones you set. Thankfully, Hip Hop is such a boundless genre.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
As I mentioned before, my ultimate goal as an artist is to utilize my talent in many natural and diverse ways. The driving force behind this goal is one person, Frances Holmes, my grandmother. She is my inspiration and motivation throughout life. She was an educator for 30 years, so she’s always pushed me to expand and challenge myself through education. She sparked my love of reading, which inspired me to start writing stories and raps. She’s encouraged me to chase my dreams and passions and to give my all no matter what.
