We were lucky to catch up with Anyssa Sands recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Anyssa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
My business is built around the idea of legacy. As we grow, as time passes, what we leave behind is simply that, a legacy. I believe that photos have this beautiful way of housing our legacies – this is what physically gets passed down from generation to generation to remind those who come after them, what that legacy was. That being said, as I document these beautiful stories and relationships of unique people, I long for my legacy to be one of great love, service, and beautiful art. There is nothing quite like using my gifts and my art to create something beautiful for someone else.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a business owner and wedding & family photographer based out of Colorado Springs, Colorado. My background is actually in songwriting and vocal performance which played a huge role in leading me to starting my journey as a creative entrepreneur. Storytelling has always been my passion and greatest love. It connects us, and fuels so much around us. While I was pursuing songwriting as a career, I realized my heart is actually that of an artist. I left Nashville, and moved back to my home in Colorado and realized I wanted to start my own creative business. I decided I was going to be a wedding photographer, and never looked back. I have fallen in love with story in a whole new way – these stories of love, struggle, and beauty that fill relationships with depth have captivated me and I long to know, serve, and celebrate with these people on one of the most important and meaningful days of their lives! The best part of this work is that I get to tell a story for someone else that will be treasured for a lifetime and beyond.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I feel very grateful to have such a wonderful community of business owners and photographers in my life who have encouraged me when I’ve struggled and questioned myself. One of the most important things I’ve learned so far is how crucial it is to invest in my own mind. My mindset, beliefs, and vision are the backbone of my business and can either fuel me, or destroy me. I’ve spent a lot of time working through my own self-doubt and growing in confidence, skill, and mindset as a foundation for success. If I don’t have this working for me and driving me, I’ll never achieve my goals. If I don’t believe in myself and the product I’m selling, how can I expect someone else to?

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Most of my new clients come through word of mouth. It’s the highest compliment when someone I’ve worked with sends me their friends or family members.
