We were lucky to catch up with Anye Smith recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Anye, thanks for joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I am Anye’ Smith, Owner and operator of Veh’s Treats. I’m a visionary and highly adept Pastry Chef with an Associates degree of Applied Science in Le Cordon Bleu Pastisserie and Baking, that was obtained in Dec. 2016.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Upon graduating at the end of 2016, my business then went on to florish and bloom for the next couple years. When one day it came to a screeching hault…. Life happend and something was missing. Realizing that somewhere along the way of life happening, my drive and passion for my craft had faded away. Not, until recently I went searching for what was lost, and by the grace of God, I found my passion and regained my drive and motivation to do what I initially set out to do. Blessed to have been introduced to the right people at the right time, Veh’s Treats is back in full throttle. One thing that I needed to realize is that life is ALWAYS going to happen. So as people who wear many hats, we have to keep PUSHING, praying until something happens and remain tenacious throughout the process in order to come into our purpose purpose becoming who God has intended for us to be.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My journey began back on June 9th 2010, when deciding to make my son’s Spiderman birthday cake. Upon completion of the cake, it was then, at that very moment, I realized what my true calling ans purpose was in life. (not sure what to put here but I wanted to say something really good) After receiving several compliments on my creation, baking and decorating cakes for family and friends became my new hobby, which eventually turned into unofficial business profits. At that point, ut was time to make my small cake business legit. In Oct of 2010, tragedy then hit. I lost the closet person to me in this world, my cousin, my brother Jahveh. With this great loss, I wanted to honor my cousin and named my business after him. For the next 4 years I continued to bake and teach myself different decorating techniques. But something was missing, my business was stagnant, I was running in circles, receiving multiple orders, but no progress was being made. I asked myself, Anye’ what are the steps that you need to take to go to the next level with your business? After fighting a battle within myself, the decision was made, I needed to perfect my imperfections abd gain more knowledge. What better way to do that then to go back to school and perfect my craft. In Aug. Of 2014 I took the necessary steps to enroll in Le Cordon Bleu Culinary arts program.
