If I were starting over today with the knowledge and experience I have gained, there are a few things I would do differently to set up my company more efficiently.
First and foremost, I would focus more on market research and identifying a niche within the digital marketing industry. In the early days of my company, I was more focused on getting clients and building a portfolio, without giving as much thought to the specific types of clients and services that would be most profitable and sustainable. Going forward, I would take more time to research the market and identify a specific area where we can differentiate ourselves and provide the most value.
Secondly, I would prioritize building a strong team from the beginning. When I first started, I was the sole employee and relied heavily on contractors and freelancers. While this allowed me to keep costs low and remain agile, it also made it difficult to scale and provide consistent quality to clients. Now that my company is closer to 100 people, I have a much stronger team in place, but I wish I had started building that team earlier on.
Finally, I would invest more in technology and automation to streamline our processes and improve our efficiency. In the early days, I relied heavily on manual processes and Excel spreadsheets to manage projects and track progress.
