We were lucky to catch up with Antonio Griffin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Antonio, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I have always enjoyed being an artist. The feelings received from bringing an idea to life is unmatched and numerous times I tried to see if the same feelings can be replicated but I have yet to find anything. Looking back on the last time I worked a regular job I was unhappy because the time that was spent working could have been used for creating. That was my thought process throughtout my entire time there. It felt like a repetitive cycle of waking up and going to work then sleep just to do it again. This can create a robot like feeling but it made me even more anxious to leave and explore more opportunities. If you feel like you can do more to contribute to the world than a regular job then I highly encourage you to persue it. The world we live in is so big and its so much to learn. That is the conclusion I came to and once 2020 came around especially with all that happened that year, I was able to safely quit my regular job and further grasp my dreams
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am Antonio Griffin/Griffy and I am a creative artist in every aspect. From fashion designer to musical artist I do it all. As of right now, I am currently focusing on building a concrete following alongside creating for my clothing/lifestyle brand Ghetto Star. My full journey with creating started when I was around 14. Music and graphic design were the first forms of art I fully invested myself into. Having an early start felt like an advantage and with numerous questions to both Google and YouTube, I learned all of the basics needed. I had the concept ideas for my brand around 2018 but didn’t fully implement a full design until 2020. Every detail in everything I do is thought of a million times and I feel that is very misunderstood with creatives. Having all of these ideas with limited knowledge or even resources can become very frustrating and discouraging sometimes. That is why we push to break boundaries and share our finds with the world.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The feeling of bringing your ideas to life, It is umatched and builds the drive to keep doing it over and over again.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Problems as an creative plus with what life brings you can be very overwhelming. The moments dealing with them, you would much rather create and ease your mind. Gathering support is also stressful especially starting out and trying to gain that support to push your art into a different stratosphere
