We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Antonia Gates. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Antonia below.
Antonia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
As a content creator, I’ve gotten many collaborations with both national and local brands. Most of the time brands want me to post content on my social media to advertise their products. Recently, UGC (User Generated Content) has become a new trend with content creators and brands. Brands are now paying creators to make content that they can use for their own business. The creator is no longer required to post it on their social pages. It’s becoming popular because UGC content creation doesn’t require a certain number of followers or certain stats from a content creator/ influencer in order to collaborate with a brand.
Antonia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Antonia Gates. I’m a wife and a mom to two beautiful girls. Content creation is the epitome of my business, Boss Mom Living. I create content for myself and for other brands. You can find me mainly on Instagram.
“Life’s a Journey, so enjoy the ride!”
This is the motto that I live by and it pushed me to move in the direction of designing the life I want. I started Boss Mom Living back in 2018 when I found out that I was finally pregnant with my first child after being told I was infertile for three years.
Being a “Boss Mom”, means being able to be a mom and juggle everything that life throws your way (such as owning a business, working a full-time job, wins and losses, vacations, etc.) Boss Mom Living started on my YouTube channel, then transitioned to other social platforms as my journey of finally becoming a mom blossomed. As an educator, I’ve always been able to enjoying letting my creative juices flow and now I get to take pictures, videos, and edit content as a content creator. It truly never feels like work when you’re having fun!
Collaborating with brands and sharing finds that I love with other families is super important to me. I know when I first became a mom, I looked for help and inspiration on YouTube, Instagram, & Tik Tok, so I thought that I could do the same for others. We’re in an ever-changing world. Thank God for technology that allows us to have a space to share our greatest finds with each other! I love sharing the real with other moms and letting others know that even though we enjoy having a family, it’s okay to focus on you and take time for what you want in life as well.
How did you build your audience on social media?
From the beginning my biggest motivation was creating content that I would enjoy and that the people who needs my type of content, will soon follow. Sounds easy right? Well, it wasn’t easy to begin with. I think what attracted me to other people in my niche (Motherhood and Lifestyle) is the way I branded myself on social media. Whether I had 1000 followers or 100k followers, I said to myself I always want my content to look like something you would want to engage with. I researched all the best apps I can use to create and edit content. I had lots of trials and errors, but I also had big wins. With my persistence, I started getting DMs and emails from brands and I also had other content creators contacting me for advice. When I saw that I can make revenue from doing something that I love, such as creating and editing, the rest was history. The main thing to remember, is your why. Things can get tough. My why had to do with both my family and myself and it’s gotten Boss Mom Living to where it is now!
Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
I’ve mentioned that I’ve had brands reach out to me for collaborations. I also reach out to brands. When reaching out, I’m pretty much pitching to them as to why I would be the right person to share their product on social media. Sometimes I get answers and sometimes I don’t. I remember reaching out to my first big hotel brand and thinking they will probably never even respond, but I’ll give it a shot. At the time my following on Instagram wasn’t as big as it is now, but I sold myself to them in the best way I could by showing my value. Eventually, the brand responded and it was one of the best collaborations I’ve enjoyed doing. I still keep in contact with them to this day as I try to do with every brand. Moral of the story, don’t ever underplay your value!
