Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anton DuFort. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Anton, appreciate you joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
The beautiful aspect of a creative career/passion is the continuation of learning and honing your craft. Nobody has every answer to every single question or curiosity in photography, and thats somewhat the dangling carrot being a photographer…it’s all subjective and everybody has their own vision of what constitutes as “art” Personally I love learning, and its up to you to explore new concepts or techniques be it lighting, posing for models, viewpoints while shooting and ultimately that’s what brings me joy throughout the creative process.

Anton, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Anton DuFort a commercial portrait photographer based in Washington D.C. Originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan I have been working in a creative space for about 15 years and now ultimately settling in the space of portraiture. Commercially providing clients with visuals for campaigns, fashion/editorial work etc. and personally have always had an affinity for black & white imagery. That being said clients or models do book me to shoot with a black & white image concept in mind and I believe it’s become over time something that I’ve leaned in to heavily. Overall in my career I’m most proud of the people I get to meet through creating as well as the reactions others have to my work, there really is not a better feeling than getting a positive review or reaction from a client or from an observer. Since I was young I knew that a creative outlet was in my future and it’s just a dream to be able to pour into my photographs and to inspire or motivate others to do the same.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Most rewarding aspect of being an artist in my own view is the ability to visualize an idea or concept and actually bring it to a reality and capture that via a camera. That exact moment in time will never exist as it did when you press the shutter button on a camera and that is a great power & responsibility.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The mission for me personally is to produce the best work I possibly can with the creativity that I’ve been allotted in my life. There are plenty of goals within that but when I set out on a job or to work on a personal project I want to produce the best images I can by any means necessary.
