We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Antoinette Mayfield a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Antoinette, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I always knew I was created to create but I had a stutter that kept me from being social for most of my adolescent years. After years of speech therapy I overcame my stutter and started to participated in plays, sang in the church choir, and would make people laugh at ever opportunity I got. My love for people and the arts grew into a passion and that is what lead me to Dallas. In 2019, I created my podcast “No Frontin The Podcast” where I interview creatives and business owners. I recently started modeling as well as acting and have had the pleasure of working with Stud Model Project Agency based in Atlanta, GA. and have been an in a IMDB film.
Antoinette, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was born and raised in Mississippi but have called Texas home for the past seven years. I am a podcast host, songwriter, model, and actress. I am most proud of coming from a small town and not just living in a big city but thriving. I moved to Texas to follow my dreams and I have done just that starting with my podcast. My first creative endeavor was “No Frontin The Podcast” an interview-style podcast that’s funny yet raw and honest. I’m on my six season and looking to feature individuals from all over the world.
I have been writing songs since before high school but lost all my writings before college. I stopped writing after that but have stated back in recently years and music will be released before end of he year. Modeling and acting are passions I recently started to take more seriously and want to pursue more in 2023. I have styled myself for multiple photoshoots and have tapped into a talented I wasn’t aware I had. Styling has not only helped my modeling but my acting as well. I am able to find and style clothing for many different occasions, photoshoot, and/or scenes.
It can be hard to stand out in the entertainment industry however I do so because l make sincere connections and with my positive aura. The main thing I want the readers to know about my brand is that I am my brand and because of that it is ever expanding, flourishing, and worth keeping an eye on.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Two books that have motivated me and help me create my personal philosophy are: Professional Troublemaker by Luvvie Ajayi Jones and The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. After reading these books I have adopted the Stoicism philosophy. The idea at the heart of it is acceptance of all things that are beyond your control. Pain will pass, you will remain, so the best thing to do is focus on what you can control. I claim the good and work to make it come true but understand things won’t always go my way but to never give up on myself.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect would be the people I get to met. There are so many amazingly dope, uniquely gifted, kind hearted, and passionate people that I get to met that I wouldnt be able to if I wasnt a creative.
