We recently connected with Antoinette Beeks and have shared our conversation below.
Antoinette, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your professional career?
In my two decades of being one of the most promoted individuals in the company, I’ve identified two keys to that led to my success, continued growth and development.
The first key is to establish a clear understanding of processes and systems that exist in your career or business. I recall an incident where an existing process was inefficient, wasteful, and time consuming. I allowed myself to be curious and imagined the solution of a perfect world. Having a curious nature is the second key.
Curiosity is the catalyst for developing novel and innovative ways to improve existing processes and systems in order to yield a more efficient outcome and output. In being curious, my mind was allowed to explore and create a more efficient, time-saving process that other employees could benefit from to make their jobs easier, while continuing to yield a better product.
It is my belief that it is impossible to effectively change anything unless you understand the nature and basis of it.
Antoinette, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I make healthy food taste good! I’m a foodie, speaker, music lover, model, chef and Wellness Nutrition Coach. I guide after the nester women in making their next chapter their best chapter.
I was fortunate early in life to experience the best foods a little girl growing up in South Carolina could ever dream of. Thanks to my grandmother, I was exposed to farm to table food on a regular basis in this soul food mecca. She, along with my aunt, cousin and mother, are phenomenal cooks. As a shy introverted kid, being in the kitchen and rooted in music was my escape from the challenges of adolescence.
A former college athlete, I veered left and spiraled heavily into unhealthy food. Physically uncomfortable in my skin, overweight, and in fast food credit card debt, I got back on track focusing on cooking whole foods, making flavor the priority. I lost 50 pounds and kept it off without sacrificing foods I enjoyed. I knew my experience could help other women achieve similar goals.
I obtained my Integrative Nutrition Health Coaching certification from IIN and started After the Nest LLC. In my coaching services, I help women cook their way to freedom by implementing minor tweaks to achieve big wins.
Combining my childhood, weight loss journey, certification, and love of food, I wrote “After the Nest: The Culinary Edition.” Even though this self-help cookbook guides college grads to cook more and eat less fast food, it is also practical for those who want the sauce for a healthy life.
Adapting whole food cooking thrusted me to become a published runway model and season 3 winner of YouTube reality show, The Androgynous Model.
I take tremendous pride in teaching my clients and family how to make healthy food delicious. I am grateful that I play a part in not only extending life, but helping it be a fruitful one (pun intended).
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Consistently posting cooking videos and pics, along with tips and strategies for delicious healthy eating built my reputation in the wellness nutrition market and gain trust.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
In terms of books, The Principal of the Path by Andy Stanley helped me establish a roadmap to achieve my goal as an author and coach. In terms of entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy, Alex Hormozi has opened my eyes to a wealth of knowledge. His simple communication and easy to digest content makes it not so scary for a budding entrepreneur.
