Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Antoine Baynes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Antoine, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
At the age of twenty three I took one of the biggest risk of my life at that time. My oldest daughter was only about eight months old. Here I am working two jobs just to provide and survive. I was working in the medical field as an advisor and counselor for healthy sex practices. We would also administer free H.I.V testing to anyone that wants to know their status. While doing that I also worked at Sam’s club as a part time photo technician in the photo lab. Working both jobs; I was only able to afford a one bedroom apartment, barely utilities on time, and that’s when I felt something has to change. A few months later I find out that my girl friend at the time was pregnant! She was working a state job and it still wasn’t enough. Especially now that a new baby was on the way.
“I have to do something” I kept saying to myself. What exactly do you do? Get another job? Asked to work overtime? Keep in mind that I have no college degree and even those with degrees have the hardest time landing a good job that pays well. Finding a higher paying job was slim to none, especially without major experience. The one thing I could do was create a lane.
“If you want something you never had; do something you never done” I always say. Within one month, I went to Las Vegas on a one way bus ticket and never looked back. I found the success I was looking for and became financially able to take care of my family. I had to leave what I was use to; to become exposed to a new blessing. Yes, it was scary! There are going to be times that you think.. man, I probably should’ve stayed home.” Sometimes in life being complacent can prevent you from reaching your full potential because you’re never moving like a hamster wheel. If you ever have that feeling where you’re meant to do more in life. Don’t settle for good! Go be great! The reward is a lot greater than the fear of jumping.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into the entertainment business professionally at the age of twenty three when I made the life decision to make that move to Las Vegas. There I became a professional Michael Jackson tribute artist. Then I moved to L.A to focus more on stand up comedy, acting and hosting. Back when I was talking about taking risks, it’s rewarding but it’s hard work! Setting goals are one thing but the discipline is a key factor. It’s discipline that helps you stay focus and consistent. You will need the discipline to help you stay on task and to reach your goals. I actually have a unique spin on impersonating. I marry couples as Michael Jackson and Prince.
Creating new memories is a wonderful feeling! Giving others something that they will remember for a lifetime! Also becoming a part of their wonderful moments is a feeling like none other. Sometimes my clients never forget me and now we’ve become family in a way lol!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Putting smiles on faces is awesome while I’m performing. Making people laugh as a stand up comedian is therapy for myself and others. While I’m on stage, I’m worry free! Rather dancing or telling jokes, the stage is home. Helping others reach their goals or giving advice to those that can assist them. I enjoy helping our youth! The future is in our children and how we teach them. Showing them the right way to do things is important. Sometimes there’s no short cuts in life. and “most things done right isn’t made easy.” That lesson is important.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I want to help families that are without to have clean water, food, and the ability to receive a good education. Family is everything to me and they are my ultimate motivation. Especially my kids!
