Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anthony Tang. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Anthony, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I feel like I have always wanted to be in a profession with music. Since I was a kid I used to love dancing, growing up watching step up and especially watching Michael Jackson performances and concerts, I was like woah that’s so cool. As I grew older and grew out of the dancing stage I picked up an electric keyboard for the first time in middle school and started playing and playing everyday. I would listen to songs and recreate them on the keyboard from ear, I had no idea how to read notes. This prompted me a few years later to want to learn music producing because I had so much joy in recreating the drum patterns, melodies, and the whole process of making songs on my keyboard. The second I got my laptop and downloaded FL studio… I fell in love. This started my journey of creating beats and nonstop producing day and night, I spent hours on end making beats of all genres. EDM was my favorite genre to make, just because of all the different elements and unique sounds and rhythms that come along with every song. Every time I had an idea or just made a mess in my music projects, I just made it work somehow back then, I never wasted a music project. I posted these EDM songs on Soundcloud for fun and sooner than later I started experimenting with my own voice over my beats. I never liked them at first but soon got used to it. I would use my own voice at different pitches and levels to learn how to mix vocals. I remember making full songs and showing my friends and they all told me to release it, those songs being “daydreams” and “nights alone”. I never thought about it but I had always wanted to make music. I started releasing music because why not? I have all these projects in my laptop, might as well put them to use. Ever since I had been still producing my own songs because as a hobby that I really enjoy, why not make it a career? I want to do something I love. Music. I hope one day I’ll get there, whether that’s this year, 3 years, 5 years. I want to do what I’ve loved all my life.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi I’m TANGy! I am an independent musician/artist and started this chase for a career from my music production hobby. I want to make songs that people can feel, on any day they have an experience from my music. Whether that is sadness, happiness, love, somber, anything you can think of. I want to connect people through my music and make an impact one way or another. I am content of where I am at now in my career but I am not where I want to be. My followers and loyal listeners keep me going where I want, I am still chasing my dream and will be there before I even know it I’m sure. I am confident in this life choice and know I can get there. As long as I keep creating what I enjoy and make what I feel in the moment, those are real human emotions in my songs that the listeners can relate to and feel. I hope to make an impact in lives in some way through my songs. I don’t need a huge hit single, but a fanbase that loves what I make no matter what it is. I know I can make my way into others lives and hopefully give them an amazing experience to keep them around. Hope I see you on my journey!

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I think what people fail to understand or have a hard time understanding, is the fact that I can’t just release music every week, day, or so. The songs I make usually come out of nowhere, It will start from a random project to a whole song whether it takes one day or months. My songs come from pure enjoyment and I like to take my time enjoying what I do, to give the audience the best I can in the moment. Also when I do disappear online for a few days or so, I usually take my time to reset and really focus on myself. Living online is not the best lifestyle, I like to go out and enjoy my time in the real world for song inspirations and a full mental reset. This is not a tiring career to me as I enjoy it but, sometimes it’s good to get some fresh air.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The best thing an artist can get for support from the audience is just the fact they stay around to hear new music. Everyone should experience something at least once in their life, why not some music? Even if they do not stick around in the long term, at least you gave the artist a chance. I love when artists can support and hype each other up as we all have the same goal. Every artist wants to make it, least we can do is support each others music and motivate each other to grow. This is a growing ecosystem of many sorts of genres and uniqueness, at least support each other.
