Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anthony Spinner. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Anthony, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
When both my moms passed away while I was in college, it was the hardest times of my life and on my senior day my teammates decided to make posters of my moms and their signatures to let me know I was loved and that they are always gonna be with me .
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Anthony Spinner I am from Los Angeles California born and raised, I am a personal trainer and I have a bachelors in health science from the 1st HBCU Lincoln university in Pennsylvania. I first got into weightlifting in high school where I found my love for the gym, my high school football coach made sure we were well prepared for weights all through high school. This then translated to college where I was the assistant strength coach during my senior year, I held 5 am workouts in the gym by myself for my teammates and the other school athletes for 2 years. This what made me know I was made for this life, after graduating I knew I was coming home to soon be a trainer, I hit some bumps in the road like losing my sister to a car crash, after enduring pain over the years from losing both my mothers back to to back, I continued to go strong because that’s what they would have wanted. My first year as a trainer in LA was nothing less but greatness, I was training 20 people a day and making a living off it, I didn’t charge a lot but it was still amazing to see so many people wanted to train with me and I buoy so many relationships over the years. I went from training in other friends gyms to building my own home gym in LA where I still train currently. Through fitness I have done so much like reach ESPN top 10 on sportcenter, train nfl athletes, rappers, and models. I used to never think any of this was possible with such little experience, and something I’ve learned is I’m still getting started. I’m now progressing to becoming a powerlifter as well along side still training and also have brought home medals from training a powerlifter for her 1st competition where she placed 1st and competed for a state record. Many more of my accomplishments come from seeing my clients be happy with their results and happy with their self it’s honestly some of my favorite things to see. To those who want to become trainers I will say, you have to be respectable and very conscious to how you are viewed, women will be your biggest clientele and you have to Learn to be a business man to make a living and fame in this game, Im very much on my way but not there yet, but it’s always lovely to see how far I have came. My favorite moments are being out and hearing people say they are proud of me and that they’re fans of my content as well! These are the moments I have dreamed of and they aren’t over yet, I can’t wait to see what else is in store !
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Being resilient is big in this field you have to understand you aren’t gonna have the same clients forever and you have to stay promoting your self for bigger and better , you can’t get complacent. Clients feed off your energy as a trainer so you have to bring that to them as well to make them the best version of them. It’s more to it than being a trainer, the internet views you as an influence so build an audience and motivate them as well this will build you so much confidence .
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start?
Before I invested in building a home gym, I needed the money to fund it I spent countless hours training in other people space and paying rent, but I was training from sun up to sun down, for many that isn’t possible but I made it happen, it led me to enough income to build a gym in my backyard and funded all my new equipment as well .
