We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Anthony Richardson . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Anthony below.
Hi Anthony , thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
What a lot of people don’t know is, I’d that Eugene started from Kloset Kleanerz, which is my non profit that donates quality clothing back to people who are less fortunate, a major emphasis on quality, because we know how much of impact your clothes have on daily living for kids to adults. As I was working through Kloset Kleanerz. I wanted it to be a movement, I wanted people who supported to see what we were doing and hear about the organization and clothing was the only way I knew how to do that. It was the only way that felt right. I had begin making t shirts and hoodies for the non-profit & as time went on it just didn’t make sense to me. I loved fashion so much and I wanted to do more but I felt limited because it was a non profit and not a clothing brand. The “motto” for Kloset Kleanerz was “Living Selflessly Not Selfishly”, which struck a name for what I thought I wanted the clothing brand to be called. “Altruisme” is what the original name for the brand was. It meant “selfless” in French. Haha things Just sounded better foreign at the time. I think it was only a few weeks or days that went by before my best friends told me that people love me and they love my fashion. I should call it Eugene which is my middle name & it was a name I hated growing up because I did not feel like it fitted me. A few months later Eugene was born, liked it was destined if that makes sense. We were on the prowl to be the best.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I think what separates Eugene from other clothing brands is the authenticity, the purpose , & the parallel between commonality & fashion. I want our customers to know that each piece that is crafted has a specific purpose. Sole purpose is to teach & inspire, after that it’s just to be fresh as ever honestly. That’s why you’ll see, detailed graphics or quotes/message’s that will have you thinking about if the message is pertaining to you when you read it or see it. I’m proud of where Eugene has came, where it’s at, & where it’s going. I have to input this because it is important to my success & longevity. I owe it all to God; the designs, the opportunity, the messages. Everything, he’s been the light for everything I’ve encountered.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
It’s many lessons that I’ve learned throughout the years. The biggest one that I say has made me grow the most was understanding that everyone is not out to help you, some people really are trying to get over on you or only assist yo benefit themselves. One key time that was pivotal in my business was when I was working with a manufacturer in the States, & at the time I just knew it was perfect, from our communication, our ideas & teamwork and etc. something just didn’t sit right with me. So as time got closer to release communication slowed down & long story short I took a major financial loss. Had me on my heels, ready to give the brand up, but I knew there was more in store for me. The lesson I’m trying to get across is that don’t trust anyone, take everything with a grain of salt.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience by being natural & authentically me. The brand is me & I am the brand. That’s what people want to see. Staying consistent with posting, marketing & updates. That’s my best advice. Also, go never be afraid to put your self or your product out there. You stand in between greatness & normal.
