Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anthony Osuna. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Anthony, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
I had been working with food for a couple of years before coming up with the idea. One day a couple of my buddies asked me to make a cheesecake and with that being my favorite dessert, I said “hey, why not!” I had never made a cheesecake before so it was my first attempt, but I already placed so much love into my work I had no doubts I would successfully make a cheesecake. So I make, bring it to them, and they eat it. As I’m heading home from delivering the cheesecake, my buddies call me with so much excitement explaining to me that the cheesecake was the best they had ever had. I took that with a grain of salt and kicked off “The Cheesecake Guy”. Trial and error was a big thing the first couple of months with just trying out different flavors, finding the right bake time and the ingredients. Once I figured it all out, the domino affect kicked in and everything fell into place.
Anthony, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Food has always been a big part of my life, and I’m not talking about eating it but also creating it. Since I was a young child I’ve enjoyed my time in the kitchen. I began learning my way around the kitchen by the age of 7 starting with making my own snacks. From there, I would learn, absorb, and grow a stronger passion for the kitchen. By the time I was in high school, I was competing in iron Chef competitions. The best part of the competitions were the intensity, and the eagerness everyone had to create the perfect plate.
10years later, I’m selling the best cheesecake in AZ. Although, I offer other services such as meal preps, and catering, my specialty is cheesecake. My cheesecake business offers 30+ flavors and multiple sizes to fit your budget. We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Making cheesecakes had been a side hustle for almost 2 and a half years. I slowly started drifting into it full-time when business began to get a lot more busy day to day. Business grew a lot through the word of mouth as well as me speaking to strangers and handing out business cards. In today’s world we can reach so many people around the world through technology and so utilizing social media promotional was my absolute biggest source that could reel in potential customers. All I can say is that all of this will take time, so to those looking to start a business or you’re in the beginning stages of your business, just be patient and grind it out. Eventually, everything will fall into place.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I built my reputation by consistently providing a delicate, yet high quality product that allows you to enjoy an experience to remember. Every cheesecake I make is made with nothing, but love. Once you dig into that first rich creamy bite, that’s when you’ll understand why I stand out from the rest.
