Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anthony Osarfo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Anthony thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
In 2009, my evident passion for storytelling began to surface. I crafted a story and sought feedback from Prince Ntim, a long-standing friend from my high school days. After reading it, he was profoundly moved and captivated. Without hesitation, he remarked, “Why am I even surprised? You’ve been a storyteller since our high school days.” This comment transported me back to our school days when one of my manuscripts received the prestigious award for best overall story.
Inspired by this validation, I embarked on a journey of writing screenplays, and I have never looked back since.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Anthony Osarfo is a highly accomplished horror screenwriter with extensive experience in arts, tourism, and entertainment writing spanning over fifteen years. His expertise lies in crafting captivating stories that delve into the realms of darkness, with a particular focus on culturally diverse characters.
One of Anthony’s notable achievements is the creation of a gripping, contained, supernatural horror screenplay titled “The Night is Awake.” This remarkable piece of work garnered him a sponsored selection for the renowned Nostos Screenwriters Retreat, a prestigious bi-annual event held in the captivating region of Tuscany, Italy. Out of numerous talented individuals who submitted to the contest, Anthony was among the distinguished group of eight screenwriters chosen from across the globe to partake in this intensive two-week training program. The retreat, designed to foster collaboration and elevate script development to unprecedented levels, marks a significant milestone in his career.
Having already completed three impeccably written supernatural horror screenplays, Anthony is determined to continue his trajectory in the field of screenwriting. His fervent passion for horror writing has driven him to submit his works to over fifty international film festivals and screenwriting contests, with the aim of garnering recognition and seizing opportunities within the industry.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, my goal is to become the first African horror screenwriter to achieve global recognition in cinematic storytelling and filmmaking. I am driven by this passion because I have realized a significant fact: the majority of stories or films that African filmmakers showcase or export to other parts of the world are predominantly comedy or drama, with very little horror, if any.
Interestingly, data from box office records in Western countries, particularly Hollywood, reveals that horror stories captivate audiences, consistently attract large crowds, and generate substantial returns on investment. Unfortunately, Africans have been excluded from this lucrative opportunity.
I am determined to change this narrative, which is why I have embarked on writing horror screenplays. I envision a future where Africa contributes more horror movies to the global film industry. This dream is not only feasible, but it is also within our reach.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Seeing my screenplays win or place in numerous contests, garnering read requests, and nurturing the aspiration that one day my screenplays will be produced into cinematic masterpieces with proper acknowledgment, is undeniably gratifying. It is the very essence that propels me forward ceaselessly.
