We were lucky to catch up with Anthony Nealy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Anthony , thanks for joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
After my wife and I got married. I surprised my wife with our first home garden. We them learned how to germinate seeds from a Local Farmer In St Joseph Mo. Then we offered our Neighbor who was a senior citizen if she would like a garden in her yard and she did. So plowed and tilled up her yard and planted her garden. Then we started a garden at a local Church as a gift.
At that time we where using our personal funds to create and supply those gardens. And our Accountant would try and retrieve our funds back thru our Income tax returns.
Then our Account advised us to become and register a Non Profit organization.
So we did the steps with the State and Federal IRS and was approved for our 501c 3 Charitable Organization.

Anthony , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My wife and I are the Cofounders of Global One Urban Farming Community Garden Non Profit organization.
And how it all came about started in my Hometown Detroit.
Mother was a LPN Nurse and loved gardening and I was the only son.
So I started learning how grow vegetables when I was 12 years old.
We kept a garden for over 20 years.
And so when I got married to my dear wife In 2009. I put our first garden in. So with our Board Members we purchased 1 Acre of land from the Kansas City Land bank.
It’s was blight unused land with trees and was a dumping lot.
It’s now in full gardening use.
We cleaned the land out Removed trees and leveled the land.
We have added 20 garden boxes and a 20 by 50 Greenhouse with 10-15 thousand feet of ground that we Grow in.
Our organization Global One Urban Farming also currently have 2 Partnerships at 2 Local school’s where we Teach Students how to Produce Vegetables from Seeds to Harvest and The Greenhouse Process.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Well my wife and I began over 10 years ago planting vegetables and sharing the produce free to our neighborhood.
It took all of personal funds to create these gardens. And we worked hard to organize our new business.
And we now are a Good Standing Non Profit.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
Well when I relocated to Kansas City from Detroit Michigan..
I had a job on the Historical 18th & Vine district.
And my Cofounder was hired at the same company.
She and I became friends in 2005.
And got married in 2009.
She and I are the Cofounders of Global One Urban Farming Community Garden.
