We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Anthony McDonald. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Anthony below.
Anthony , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
Growing up , Ive met a lot of visual artists, and many of them come from a family of professional artists. I didn’t have that luxury growing up. My siblings and I loved to draw but nobody in our family did it for a living. Despite this, it was warming to have parents who supported my decision. The arts as a career is often frowned upon especially In working class families I’m grateful that my passion was supported at a young age, as it motivated me to pursue my studies in the creative field,

Anthony , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hey my name is Ant, and I am a visual artist and graphic designer. Ive been studying the arts as a kid attending High School of Art & Design and SUNY Purchase. In these schools skills painting, drawing ,and digital art & design. Today I still create digital and traditional art ,with which I sell at popups, night events and more. What makes me stand out from others is my unique art style, vibrant color pallete, and strong understanding of art and design.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I feel like non creatives don’t understand that creatives have a specific niche. Just because we are able to create one thing doesn’t mean we can, or even like creating any and everything. It’s as tho we’re looked at as magicians and in a way we do create magic, not just every type of magic. It’s like going to a pizza shop and asking for a burger. Non creatives need to seek artists specialize in the specific style or medium they’re looking for.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I thing the most rewarding aspect is the creation itself. It’s easy to get caught up in other aspects like trying to make money, showcasing, approval etc. But worrying about these things too much can lead to an art block or even not being able to put your most genuine ideas out there in general. I feel like with everything stressing a creative out, if they can actually focus on the piece at hand, the rest can fall into place after.
