We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Anthony Mahnke Jr. a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Anthony, thanks for joining us today. Do you manage your own social media?

Anthony, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Im an artist based in the Metro Detroit area. I paint everything from portraits and landscapes to abstracts. My main mediums of choice is acrylic and oil paints, and occasionally ill use a bunch of different mediums for a project. Im most proud of how fast I learned how to paint and starting earning money from it, because I started about 3 years ago. I get most of my business from commission portraits, but I like creating paintings from my own imagination the most. Its super dope seeing something I envisioned in my head come to life on the canvas.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

Before the pandemic I was flipping houses, and then everything shut down. We couldn’t do any construction, the government shut down any business they deemed inessential. So I had to figure out another way to make money so I taught myself how to paint and started painting portraits soon after, which is something I can obviously do from home.

Do you have multiple revenue streams – if so, can you talk to us about those streams and how your developed them?

So the different revenue streams are commissions, rather portraits or murals. I earn money from selling artwork prints online. I sell through an online gallery called Singulart based in France. I earned from the art videos I create for instagram reels and YouTube.
