We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Anthony Howard. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Anthony below.
Hi Anthony, thanks for joining us today. What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry?
Corporate America often misses the mark when it comes to HR, particularly in terms of diversity and inclusivity. As a black man with a career history in corporate Human Resources, I’ve seen firsthand the opportunities for disruption in this area. HR departments, when utilized effectively, should be focused on maximizing the return on investment of their most valuable asset: their people.
One significant issue is the need for more diversity within many HR departments. Research has consistently shown that organizations with diverse workforces outperform those lacking diversity. Yet, many HR departments continue to be dominated by white women, with limited representation from other groups.
This lack of diversity can create a disconnect between HR professionals and the employees they serve. It’s crucial to understand that a diverse HR team is not just a matter of representation but a strategic advantage. Such a team is better equipped to understand the needs and perspectives of a diverse workforce, which is essential for fostering a sense of belonging and retaining top talent and the next generation.
The challenges can be even more pronounced for black HR professionals. Many find themselves isolated within predominantly white HR departments, facing similar barriers to advancement as their colleagues in other areas of the organization. This underscores the urgent need to create a more inclusive and equitable environment within HR itself.
I became an entrepreneur to speak this whispered truth loudly.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Authenticity is the key to connecting with your audience. In the crowded online landscape, especially on platforms like LinkedIn, standing out requires more than just knowledge. Be human. Show your genuine personality, share your experiences, and genuinely engage with your audience.
Meet your audience where they are. Celebrate their successes, offer support when needed, and provide value through your content. This organic approach, built on trust and connection, can be incredibly effective in growing your clientele without relying heavily on advertising or automation.
Remember, it’s not about the quantity of connections but the quality. Focus on building meaningful relationships with those who truly appreciate your expertise and resonate with your approach. Join communities where your target audience is active, and participate in discussions to showcase your knowledge and insights.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
As a seasoned entrepreneur, I’ve learned that the path to mastery often starts with recognizing our own limitations. My journey was no different.
My CRM, Keap, has been the backbone of my business. Attending their annual conference, where I was nominated for the Grow Award, introduced me to Clate Mask’s book, “Conquer the Chaos.” This straightforward, practical guide, filled with strategies that can be easily implemented, has been instrumental in streamlining my operations.
Do you need help with feeling overwhelmed, inconsistent results, imbalance, or customer dissatisfaction? This book offers valuable insights and strategies.
One fundamental principle that has significantly impacted my business is “Establish a Rhythm of Execution.” This approach, outlined in “Conquer the Chaos,” involves creating a structured pattern of activities that fosters calm, confidence, and consistency. By aligning my daily, weekly, and long-term goals with my overall business vision, I’ve gained a profound sense of control and direction.
Oh, and I won the Grow Award!
