Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anthony Ficco. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Anthony , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
Neither. At this point in my creative journey, I feel it’s pointless to waste time worrying about or wishing the circumstances were different. Sure, having an earlier start would have been “helpful” to say the least, but over the course of the last 10 years, I’ve been able to appreciate/thrive off the small victories, as well as the challenges, which have established a sense of trust within myself that my journey is, has been, and will be, exactly what it needs to be.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi, my name is Anthony Ficco, I was born and raised in Georgia along with my younger brother Dominick (three years apart). We grew up playing sports, which our parents thrusted us into as early as we showed interest in them, we played soccer, football, baseball, basketball, you name it. We pretty much played it all. Like many childhoods, ours was filled with lots of joy, but also a lot of pain. It was through navigating the highs and lows of growing up I discovered my love for the arts, music, movies, tv shows, all served as sort of an escape from the day to day struggles of growing up, and so my love for the arts began.
Shortly after graduating high school, I attended college thinking I’d be a biology Major, seeing as my dad was a Chiropractor and I didn’t really know what I wanted to do. It was my second chemistry class that I realized; this ain’t for me. That same year, me and one of my best friends at the time, decided to pack up and make the drive across country to California to chase our dreams. Over the course of the next ten years in L.A, I worked many different jobs, worked in bakeries, bars, warehouses, you name it, I’ve probably done it, all to support and feed the craft. It was fun and exciting.
Also, in that time, I began studying the art of acting, which led to me acting, writing, producing, and directing my own short films, I also started my production company called Ninja Alien Wizard. On top of that, I’ve had the pleasure of working on many projects other than my own, such as DRIFTER, directed by Chris Von Hoffmann and DONNA, directed by Jaret Martino. More recently, these past four years or so, my brother Dominick and I have even been writing, producing, performing, and recently releasing our own original music.
I’m a new father, two years ago I was blessed with a beautiful baby boy, which has required me to take on a more “stable job” as a project manager for a restoration company, which helps provide for my son and allows me to continue to create my art, as well as continue to audition for other acting roles that come my way. With that being said, I’m still very much committed to the craft and having the blessing that is being a father, has only given me more of a drive to accomplish all that I have been working for, for so many years.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
To simply put it, the personal growth has been the most rewarding. The overcoming of the adversities in my life, the failures that have brought about the successes, and everything in between. No matter how well we plan or prep, life has an incredible way of humbling us and with that, allows us to gain new perspectives and see life through a different lens. I’m grateful for the lessons I’ve learned.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I feel I am still living my story of resilience. As I mentioned briefly before, I am currently working a full time job as a Project Manager; working anywhere from 50 to sometimes 80 hours a week (that’s no lie). All the while, still creating my own content, auditioning, training and booking other jobs as an actor while creating music. It’s a lot, to say the least, but I feel where my journey has taken me, it has only taught me to work even harder. I refuse to give up my creativity or my dreams. I refuse to make excuses or blame anyone or anything else for my experiences and personally, I believe the journey is a beautiful thing. Thanks so much.
