We were lucky to catch up with Anthony Canapi recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Anthony, thanks for joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Fun fact: the name of my company, Best Man Matchmaking, came from a colleague of mine, who pitched the idea to me when I was in the developmental stages of building my matchmaking business. However, although I loved the name, I didn’t find any purpose/meaning behind it and for a period of time, I was considering rebranding to a more authentic brand or just using my name as the brand. However, when I was considering rebranding and the different alternate names for my business, a thought came to me that made me stick with Best Man Matchmaking permanently.
When you think of West Hollywood’s nightlife, it’s a symphony of LGBTQ+ individuals wanting to have a fun night out with their community and be their true selves. Within WeHo’s nightlife, you think of all of the clubs, bars, and hubs that all of the gays are at.
When I was developing my matchmaking company, I thought. “If I was a Gay Man in L.A. who wanted to meet other Gay Men, where would I be?” One of the options was a club in WeHo. But when I was diving deeper into that question, I thought to myself, “it’s a club full of boys who want to have fun”. It clicked to me… if you’re a Gay Single in a big city like Los Angeles, in a club full of boys, you don’t want the average boy, you want the Best Man. It then broadened to: you don’t want to settle for average, you want to settle with the Best.
That’s my name and tagline was established: Best Man Matchmaking- In a club full of boys, you deserve the, “Best Man”.

I’m Anthony Canapi and I’m a Celebrity Gay Matchmaker, Dating Coach, and Founder of Best Man Matchmaking, L.A.’s only matchmaking service exclusively for Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Men seeking authentic connections, who are looking for long-term, committed relationships.
I launched Best Man Matchmaking in March of 2022 exclusively for Gay Men who are seeking a more authentic dating process that’s back to the basics and something that’s valuable than any gay dating app would provide you.
My job as your Personal Gay Matchmaker is to add value to your dating life by introducing you to quality, caliber singles who are ready to find their person, but also unlock confidence within you that was hidden behind the insecurities and trauma created from the adversities of being a Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, or Queer Person.
The thought process behind Best Man Matchmaking is that we understand the struggles and hardships Gay Dating can be in a big city like Los Angeles as I faced those adversities myself as an out and proud gay man in his mid-twenties, who was born and raised in L.A. all my life and we work with quality men who deserve to be matched with the upper echelon of singles that seek the values and beliefs that align with their own.
After working with more than 1500+ singles who were seeking a long-term, committed relationship, I found for Gay Men that each one of them needed extra comfort and reassurance as they struggled to navigate their dating journey and progression. At Best Man Matchmaking, we’ve custom-tailored a curated, matchmaking process that guarantees dating results.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
As a Certified, Professional Matchmaker and Dating Coach, not only is it my responsibility to provide a quality service, but I also had to develop and gain an understanding that behind every service, is a business.
I had to really ask myself: how I can differentiate from being a Matchmaker and a Business-owner, but also, grow the company in regards to company value and network progression.
One of the hard skills I had to go back to basics to was Marketing myself as a brand and how can I develop management and entrepreneurial skills and philosophy that can grow my business. I highly recommend Renzo Guevarra.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Originally, I was operating Best Man Matchmaking as a Solopreneur and I met my now Co-Owner and Business Partner, Daniel Cooley, through a now retired Gay Matchmaker who expressed that Daniel had interest in my company as a Love Recruiter and Matchmaker and wanted in.
More about my business partner, Daniel: Daniel started naturally matchmaking when he helped start a nonprofit organization about twelve years ago to help stop the stigma of HIV and AIDS; and help men stay on medication or start the process of getting on Prep. What started with a few members grew to a few thousand and the men in the group always relay to Daniel and ask who he knew in the group that was single. By doing so, they started calling him the “Divine Connector”. Through the group, he was then met the retired gay matchmaker who introduced Daniel to me.
We work extremely well together and really compliment one another, kind of like Yin and Yang- I’m more of the analytical and behind the scenes approach whereas Daniel is more intuitive and creative type. So, we really balance each other out as we both bring different talents to the table both as Personal Gay Matchmakers and Businessmen. With our different skill sets and success we created together, I invited Daniel to hop on board and we have been business partners since.
