Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anthony Cahusac. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Anthony, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
This story doesn’t start with me, but with my life long friend Matthew; he started his own media company and that made me think about photography in a different way. Before his company was created, I looked at photography as a cool hobby and not the business it could become. If I’m being honest, I still don’t see it as a business today but I think that has to do with why I take photos; this is where the story of how the name of my brand starts to take shape. The name is part of the entire belief of why I take photos. I wanted to create something that was unique, but also had a meaning behind it. However, I struggled for along time to come up with a name that did both of those things. It wasn’t until I was talking to a buddy about a mission trip we took to Peru that my perspective started to shift and ideas started to come to me. The reason why I mention Peru is because of life changing trip it was for me; Peru opened my eyes to see the world through other points of view in a very different way than I ever thought before. It was during that trip that I began to understand what true happiness looked like, but unfortunately I didn’t have a camera to document any of it. However, the idea of seeing the world through others was stuck to me and I couldn’t let it go. I started to think about names that would encompass this idea and I struggled for almost a month. It wasn’t until someone said, “You can see it one way but someone who lives there might see that same place very differently.” When I heard that, it was like a light bulb went off in my head and everything was perfect; I knew I had the perfect name, Wurldviews. So now I’m super excited about it and can’t wait to tell everyone close to me that I finally have a name. I go to my close family and they all say, “You know you spelled it wrong.” Then I go to my friends, “You know you spelled it wrong.” Then I go to my life long friend who has his own media company and tell him and he says, “Dude, why did you spell it wrong?” Finally, someone asked me why it was spelled wrong instead of just pointing it out. I told him, just like I told my family and friends, that I realized when you travel the world you see so many amazing places, animals, monuments, but most importantly, meet amazing people. Every place I’ve ever traveled to has gifted me with the opportunity to meet at least one, if not many, amazing people while I’m there. When I meet these wonderful people I begin to learn who they are and where they think I should go see while being there in their city. It’s always been through these amazing people that I’m able to photograph these beautiful places that aren’t usually 1st on anyone’s list of places to go see. It’s also through the generosity of these people that has given me the ability to have a place to stay on 4 different continents through my travels. So when I see the world, I’m not just seeing the places or the monuments, I’m seeing them through Daniel, Manuel, Lucy, Ari, Yousef, Barbara, Peter, and so many more; I see all the people of the world and try to view the world through their lives. So the reason I chose to put a U instead of an O is because the U stands for all the individuals of the world, that if you take the time to meet and get to know, can show you some amazing/unknown places not listed on a map. We go to all these amazing and beautiful places around the world and forget that people are, and have been, living there for a lot longer than are short trip; so why don’t you take a few minutes away from your trip to get to know the people who live there and maybe find out about some cool things in the process. My goal through Wurldviews is to photograph as many places as possible through the generosity of amazing people around the world; I want to see the world through the eyes of locals, not tourists.

Anthony, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Anthony, the love of photography started when I found my mother’s old yellow waterproof camera. That yellow, big, and bulky thing was always around for me to mess around and use when I was young. This hobby had turned into something that I really enjoyed doing; the pictures weren’t always the best, but they reminded me of the moments. Remembering those moments was what I thought was important so I would photograph them. After I realized I wasn’t capturing enough of these moments, I started borrowing cameras from whoever I could; I eventually bought my own point-and-shoot, Olympus camera, which I used until it literally broke into pieces. After the Olympus broke, I bought a Nikon DSLR camera and continued capturing those moments. Currently, I’m using my Canon mirrorless camera and have been able to capture quite a lot of wonderful and memorable moments. Even though I’ve upgraded my camera, I’m still just taking photos of the memorable moments, but if other people enjoy it as well then that’s even better! I’m always looking for places to go to and people to meet so if you know of somewhere I should go or someone to meet, then please let me know! I always welcome new suggestions, and if you like a photo that you see, then let me know because everything is for sale in order help me continue to travel and meet more amazing people!

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I found that the most effective strategy for growing clientele is being genuine, kind, but firm. You should never change who you are and most people will understand and appreciate that; the ones who don’t, you need to be firm in your morals and character. Regardless of the situation though, you should always be kind because sometimes people are just going through things and need someone who is going to show them some kindness. When you stick to these three things, your clientele will appreciate you and let everyone else know how much they appreciate you without you ever having to ask them. Word of mouth advertising is the best way of getting and keeping clientele.
