We were lucky to catch up with Anthony Annis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Anthony, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
There is a project I worked on for an artist called “If you take me home”, it’s the first song we wrote together called “Thoughts on god”. I played a major role in the production for this song and have a solid relationship with the artist we cultivated over working together for years. This is one of the songs that this artist based most of his identity on and the meaning comes from working together to create something we both really wanted to listen to. There’s a sense of freedom from creation that is genuine to your identity.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a music producer/guitarist. I help artists sculp and carve a sound that is unique to their story as an artist. We create from the ground up with the artist and see the project fulfill the artists vision 100%. I also offer session work as a guitarist, create guitar loops and offer guitar recording services. Prior to production I played in bands in the rock industry and have a plethora of experience in that genre. I have worked and developed my craft for 5-6 years and worked with smaller artists and some major label artists. Most recently I’ve worked with an artist I’m extremely proud of a released song called “Drag”(If you take me home).
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Society can help support artists in many ways. In our content ecosystem a lot of music content is created for other music creatives. In that sphere, constructive criticism and suggestions should be more welcome from non-musicians. So much of being a creator is inherently selfish so finding a way to include consumers of the content will fuel the creative landscape. With the creation of services like Patreon, has given creators to make passive income and in my opinion platforms should have implementation in place, that give creators a livable wage if they hit certain metrics.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I started playing in bands when I was 16 years old, ever since I was a kid I wanted to be in a band and tour the world and making a living off of playing heavy rock music. In between playing shows and establishing an online presence for the band. I walked into a music store and started messing around with an old Roland Synthesizer and started playing some drum samples. This was around the time Lorde’s Pure heroine came out and I’ve never really made music in this way before. It awakened something in me and I knew this was my future.
