Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anthea Winston. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Anthea, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
Inspired and encouraged me. They have been supportive and encouraging of me, as an artist, since I was able to draw my first stick figure. No matter what it was, if I brought it to them, they hung it up. Our refrigerator was covered in my art. They inspiring me by showing me how to perservere. As an artist, sometimes you can get in your head about your work, to the point where you might want to just quit on that project or altogether. But you have to perservere, because the end result will almost always be amazing.

Anthea, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Anthea Winston. I am an artist and I always have been. I can remember sitting/laying on the floor drawing all kinds of things. Especially cartoons, I always did love to draw cartoons. They were what I was best at. Maybe they still are. My parents, siblings, elders, friends and teachers would tell me how talented I was alot, but it was just therapy and a hobby to me. Although I would draw and sell whatever was requested, I hadn’t actually considered a career in art until adulthood. Once I started though, I haven’t looked back. I LOVE IT HERE!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Lol, pivot… reminds of Ross from Friends (one of my fav tv shows) but I digress…
A pivotal point for me was when I realized that it would take alot of time to build a substantial career. I mean that a point came where I understood that I wanted ‘Art is Life by Thea’ to be more than a hobby. If I wanted it to be my main source of income, but for it to also still be therapeutic, I would have to switch my focus. I still make time to see my loved ones, but I had to realize that putting ample time into myself and my business was now a big priority. Alot has changed since that revelation.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I don’t understand them. Not even a little bit. I want to understand them though. I want to find a way to reach people on all platforms. So, I have some research to do.
