Anniesha McDonald’s official journey into entrepreneurship started at Nova Southeastern University, where she obtained her Masters Degree in Business Administration. Later, receiving her Esthetician License from Hollywood Institute of Beauty Careers. After transitioning from her full time career in aviation at the height of the global Pandemic, she opened Ann-LASH Beauty Bar in March 2020, only to be shut down before her official Grand Opening. With the world in a frenzy Ann seized the opportunity to teach Skincare at Hollywood Institute and Cortiva Institute. While the world was adapting to the new normal Ann was able to master the client experience and mastered marketing techniques to keep client engagement and retention. Ann-LASH Beauty Bar now has over 200 5 star Google Reviews from Clients. And ultimately what plays into her success is always working on continuing education and always staying one step ahead of her Client’s needs. Anniesha has earned many certifications over the years which make her knowledge and experience endless. All of this gives her the opportunity to offer her clients advanced facials/treatments, waxing, lash extensions and more! Through passion and expertise Ann’s brain equates to a knowledge pot of marketing, Client experience, & growing any brand.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In short, I opened my Spa right at the start of a global pandemic. The lease was signed in January 2020, the build out took about a month, my grand opening was set for March 20th, 2020. Needless to say, the grand opening never happened. I was smack in the middle of a 3-year lease on a 1600 square foot building, over $20,000 in debt, staff that were terrified of contracting Covid-19, and a governor ordinance shut down. While 2020 was a tiring year, I was able to turn my complete business around within 2 years. Nowadays, my client books are completely booked, and each month I am attracting new clients. The pandemic was a huge hardship that erupted my business. However, Ann-LASH Beauty Bar continues to stay afloat and flourish. Each year, new services are added, and the adaptation and trends to service clients. The pandemic was our rise of the phoenix. We grew stronger and greater through the ashes.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The customer is always right! I had to unlearn this statement to sustain my overall healthy mental health. I have worked in customer service since the age of 15 years old. My first job was as a bagger at Winn-Dixie, from there I went on to work primarily in customer service for the next 15 years. Through all my jobs in customer service, I was always taught “the customer is always right”. However, in all actually the customer is not always right, and at times you can have customers that do not understand boundaries, and do not respect your craft. As a business owner, it is extremely important to understand “No” is a complete sentence. Client boundaries help to ensure you have a healthy foundation amongst Clients.
