We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Annie Wofford. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Annie below.
Annie, appreciate you joining us today. Do you have any advice regarding quality control and maintaining quality as your brand grows?
In maintaining the highest quality in my services, I prioritize using top-of-the-line products that are specifically curated to nourish, protect, and enhance hair health. By selecting premium products, I ensure that my clients receive the best care possible. Additionally, I am committed to continuous education and staying updated on the latest products and techniques. This dedication allows me to provide the healthiest options for my clients while achieving beautiful, lasting results. My goal is to blend health and beauty seamlessly, ensuring my clients leave feeling confident and satisfied.

Annie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the beauty industry because of my deep love for beauty, style, self-care, self-expression, and art. My journey began as an outlet to channel the knowledge I gained from the painting and drawing program at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Over time, this creative outlet evolved into my true passion and love in life.
I’ve always been conscious of my carbon footprint, and I strongly align with Aveda’s vision and ethics towards sustainability. Their commitment to the planet, while still providing excellent quality results, resonated with me deeply. That’s why I chose Douglas J Aveda in downtown Knoxville, where their core values perfectly match my own.
In my practice, I offer a comprehensive range of services, including color, cut, blowouts, facial waxing, and hair extensions. However, I believe what truly sets me apart in this industry is my color work and attention to detail. I specialize in creating very natural looks and take great pride in that.
I’m proud of the hard work and dedication I’ve put into my training, ensuring that I never cut corners. I take the time to achieve the desired look and am adept at listening to my clients, delivering what they want even if they aren’t sure what will look best. My extensive product knowledge also plays a crucial role in my services. I use products that enhance the integrity of the hair, ensuring it feels better after a coloring service rather than dry and over-processed.
Ultimately, my goal is to blend artistry with sustainability, providing my clients with beautiful, healthy results while staying true to my environmental values. I am currently using Davines as my color line. The values and quality is unmatched and cannot be found at any salon.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My journey has been challenging, yet beautiful and I am deeply thankful for it. Despite facing hard times and significant health issues, I never stopped working on my craft. During the COVID pandemic, I lost all my hours in beauty school and was advised to drop out. However, I remained determined. I focused on improving my health and reapplied to the same school. I was accepted, completed my hours, and graduated.
Throughout this period, I was also healing from trauma and the loss of personal connections that were extremely important to me. I experienced profound loneliness while dealing with serious heart issues caused by COVID. Despite these challenges, I continued my education because I truly believed it was my destiny and the path to a better future.
At my graduation ceremony, I was honored with a diploma, and my teachers presented me with the word ‘Resilient,’ which they felt best represented me. Entering the industry wasn’t easy, and finding the right salon was both discouraging and difficult. Yet, I made many wonderful connections along the way, and various aspects of my life are healing. I have faith that everything will be okay.
I remain kind and loving, and I am excited to see all the beautiful blessings life has in store for me. I am eternally grateful to my mom and grandparents for standing by my side through every challenge. I am shy of this question because I do not want to be seen as a sad story, but yes, a resilient one.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I have unlearned the lesson of playing things safe. I am taking chances and taking leaps of faith to get what I know I can achieve.
