We were lucky to catch up with Annie Pisapia recently and have shared our conversation below.
Annie, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
There are 2 projects that jump right out for me. Fresh Kills director Jennifer Esposito and Whos Annie director Sophia Peer. Both I met randomly and both wound up to be huge for me. I met Miss Esposito on Instagram yes. She in boxed me and started following me back and one day i get a text. I have a role for you in my film. It was during the pandemic. And Sophia i met from Craigslist. She was doing an art installation and i would have worn a hot dog suit if she asked. I was maybe 6 months into my career. So we meet and her art project is a success and a few months Sophia calls and says. I can not stop thinking of you. Would you want a show written about you. And 6 years later i have a show. There are more details but these are basically my 2 favorites
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I grew up in Queens NY. NativeNYer. I went to Catholic school 12 years. But I wss trouble. Some trouble was mine and some not but I had a rough life in my teens and 20s. Im in Recovery since July 19. 1991. Im a silver lining type of gal really. Even in the worst of times or the saddest of times I see my glass half full. I love to find the humor and levity in things. I laugh at myself and make fun at times but never at anyone elses expense. Its not funny then its mean. And i have no problem laughing at my lifes situations.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part i think of being an actor or a story teller is the feeling of confidence that i can actually tell a story. A true story and someone will laugh or someone will identify with the feelings or the vibe of what im saying.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I was introduced to Instagram by a friend emily on set. We were chatting in between camera set ups and she said Annie your OG Annie. She said get on social media. Put yourself out there. Your genuine self. People will listen to you. I put up a few things. Everybody does their thing on social media and thats great. Im not a kid and i dont try to be someone that im not. Its not always charming or cute or funny but its real. I follow people that i admire. Look at who they follow.
