We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Annie Frampton. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Annie below.
Annie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I love so many aspects of the music industry, but I don’t love the fact that true artist development seems to be a thing of the past. When I started ‘Hype Girl,’ I made it my mission to work with artists that weren’t going to be getting the proper attention from other music industry executives…not because the artist wasn’t amazing, but because they hadn’t already achieved the success deemed necessary to invest time and effort into by some industry standards. I understand and appreciate the fact that some of the best artists have no idea how to gain fans, get press, and book a tour. That’s what I’m happily here for!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started my music management / artist development company, Hype Girl, after having worked in the music industry for about 10 years. I started managing a band in high school, went on to go to NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, and then worked for one of the top management companies in the world. Working with Grammy-award winning musicians was extremely exciting and I learned so much, but my passion truly was in working with up-and-coming musicians that had so much promise, but couldn’t quite get their footing! With Hype Girl, I’m able to work with artists that I am so passionate about and help them create the career that they dream of!
Can you open up about a time when you had a really close call with the business?
When Covid-19 started to shut down the country, I was so worried that my Hype Girl clients were going to decide to take a step back from their musical careers…but I found it to be the complete opposite! Music seemed to be more important than ever and the artists that I was working with were feeling inspired to create and connect with people through music.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Collaboration is key when it comes to growing your success in any field, but it seems to be especially true for those in the music industry! We really are all in this together. It’s so fun and exciting for me to help musicians that I love achieve success…whether it’s landing their song on an amazing playlist, booking a tour for them, or getting an amazing piece of press in their favorite music magazine, I love music and musicians so much…and I love and understand the music industry. I love being the person to help guide, advise, and make the artist’s dreams happen!
