Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Annie Delre. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Annie , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I took a huge risk…it was investing in my future. When applying to colleges, my parents made it super clear they weren’t signing any loans & wouldn’t be able to pay for any of my college. So, I signed for loans myself. Ridiculously expensive loans. (In my opinion, it’s predatory to allow an 18 year old to sign insane loans with astronomical interest rates, but that’s a story for another day).
I have taken risks like this many times since. I did this for my undergrad and graduate degree, then I paid out of pocket for a few certification programs, then took out another loan for a huge coaching program that I wanted to be apart of but didn’t want to drain my savings.
I took the ‘risk’ because I was willing to invest in my future & investing in myself was worth every penny! I took the risk even when people told me I must have lost my mind to invest in programs for health & wellness coaching because they thought it was a ‘made-up’ profession. The risk was losing friends and family / getting judged…and I still did it…and still don’t regret it.
If you’re wondering if you should take a risk by investing in yourself & your future – my answer is YES. This doesn’t mean it has to be college or a certification program, it doesn’t mean it has to be a huge investment, but just the idea of ‘betting’ on yourself and your success – GO FOR IT!
Annie , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
how you got into your industry / business / discipline / craft etc,
My story for starting in the coaching industry actually started while I was growing up in a big dysfunctional family. Because of that, I started to be interested in psychology, which led me to earn my bachelor’s degree in it. Then, while I was in my bachelor’s program, I learned of this magical field called coaching & immediately fell in love. I started researching everything I could about coaching but around 2010 there wasn’t much information – mostly about how the field was a scam (which naturally worried me). After graduating, I found a few certifications for coaching that I took, and then found the perfect master’s program for ‘Integrative Wellness Coaching’. It was that program that made me feel like I officially ‘made it’ as a coach.
what type of products/services/creative works you provide,
I do 1:1 coaching via video, phone calls and text. Something that I’m excited to announce that was launched earlier this month (April 2024) is a self-paced course called ‘Chaos to Clarity: How to Get Your Sh*t Together’ that is perfect for anyone feeling a bit lost or as if they can level up. I also do public speaking events in-person and online, which I absolutely love.
what problems you solve for your clients
Common problems I solve include: finding your life purpose, stress & time management, confidence building, communication both for your personal & professional life, accountability, motivation, habits & more!
what you think sets you apart from others.
What sets me apart is my personality, education and experience. I like to meet my clients where they are. In my sessions, I try to keep it light and as if talking with a friend. Along with my bachelor’s degree in psychology & master’s degree in Integrative Wellness Coaching, I have also served about 650+ clients, ages ranging from 5 years old to my eldest being 84 years old.
What are you most proud of
I am most proud of my sisters. They are twins who are soon to be in their 20’s and the most amazing people I know. Actually, while they were still in high school, I wrote them a book called ‘Sh*t I Wish I Knew in High School’, and a few years later published it for the public too.
what are the main things you want potential clients/followers/fans to know about you/your brand/your work/ etc.
I want my potential clients to know that I am a bit blunt but also light-hearted and like to keep things fun. I often tell clients ‘I don’t want you dreading coming to sessions, I want you to be excited about it. Also, it’s important to know – You can change! It is possible for every single person on earth – it’s just up to you to do the work.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What helped me build my reputation in my market is keeping it real. That’s the best way I can think to articulate it. I never did fluff or tried to have people like me…I just acted like myself. I don’t lie about who I’ve served or what I can provide. Also, I give a lot of free content.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Other than training/knowledge, I find it’s most helpful for succeeding in coaching to meet other coaches AND have your own coach. Just like therapy, every therapist should have their own therapist and every coach should have their own coach. If it wasn’t for surrounding myself with other coaches and like-minded people, I don’t think I’d be as successful as I am today.
