We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Annette Mathis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Annette below.
Annette, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I started off in this business by way of working for another air duct cleaning company in their office staff area. It was a good job and I found out after a short while that I excelled at this type of work and quickly moved up in the ranks of the company. It also took some help or knowledge from other family members I had working with me in the company out in the field. It was an important factor to not only have knowledge of the administrative end but also to know what was happening on the actual job sites as well. That way you can relate to what the client is referring to when you are talking to them on the phone or email. It has taken some time but with my specific knowledge in this field I have built up a nice client list and a good reputation.
Annette, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Getting into the air duct cleaning industry took some time in training and learning about the specific need for this type of work myself. There are also other wings of work that go with air duct cleaning that I had to look into so that we not only focused on the air duct cleaning side of the business but also the other duct cleaning types such as dryer duct cleaning, gutter cleaning, etc..A main purpose in these types of cleaning is to help our clients with real issues they may be having. Such as a dirty air duct system can cause illness especially with people who have allergy issues. It is very important to have the system cleaned and disinfected to help with this issue. I have had many clients call after completion to thank us for the work we had completed and state how much better they felt. It makes me feel proud that clients are happy and satisfied with work they received. To me that is the mark of a good business person.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Building a reputation in this field depends a lot on customer servicer and satisfaction. The quality of service a client expects does not only happen with the actual work being completed but is started inside the office when the client calls in. It is important they feel all their questions are answered and feel they are getting a company with good knowledge in the field and a nice friendly company who they can communicate with easily. If you can make sure all your clients are happy with the work that has been done then they will share your name with others who need this type of work.
Any advice for managing a team?
In creating a happy crew you need to make sure your employees or contractors are treated well and paid well. If they feel you are more than just a paycheck but someone they can talk to and work for they will be more willing to get to work and do the best job that can be done as they will feel a greater since of worth inside the company. A happy employee is one of the keys to success in the business.
