Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Annette Aviles-Natal. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Annette, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had started you own firm sooner?
I started my business August of 2022 after 27 years of brin gin the Title Industry. I was working a Regional Director for a mid-size Title Agency that had branches throughout the state of Florida. I worked my way up throughout the years, starting out as an administrator for a real estate attorney in New York. When I moved to Florida, I started working for a Large Corporation which had Title Agencies in most cities in Florida. Wow who would have figured I would stay with that Corporation for over 14 years. During my employment there, I had the wonderful opportunity to hold a role for many years with the affiliate Underwriter. Each role taught me so much about finances, employees, leadership, auditing, operations, just to mention a few. All the while keeping my own dream of owning and managing my very own Title Agency was kept in the back of my mind. Insecurities get the best of us and feelings of Imposter syndrome play such a huge part in my postponing my dream.
I would say to my “Now” self… you are strong, confident, powerful, accomplished Latina- and you got this Girl. But I am Thankful for all the experiences and the knowledge I learned over those 27 years. it will help me grow a phenomenal enterprise I have been dreaming about for so many years.
Annette, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have fallen into a wonderful Career when looking for a new job after going back home to New York with my family and two my boys. I Real Estate Law Firm and Title Agency needed a receptionist and there I was yearning for fulfillment, and I found it. The title industry has allowed me to create a career for myself that I would have never imagined existed. I started from an entry level and moved through several roles and learned so much. Processing, Escrow Officer, manager, Sales, Regional Director and now Business Owner- Entrepeneur. A home purchase is one of the largest financial transactions you will ever make. it’ imperative to hire only the best title companies out there. A good title agent does two things well: They coordinate the transaction efficiently and they provide remarkable customer service. Knowledge is key in this industry and to be successful you must feel comfortable in your skin when having conversations with your customers. I take my time with customers and let them know they can ask any questions to feel comfortable with the process, it’s not every day- you buy and sell a home. Commercial transactions are a little less personal but are still investments that must be handles efficiently.
With over 27 years in this industry, I can say that I truly love what I do and will do what it takes to get the customers to the closing table.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I keep little nuggets of Lessons I have learned throughout my Years of being in the Title Industry. It has allowed me to prepare myself for best practices and understanding how to be an effective leader. I’ve been blessed with the Supervisors I have had and took account of some the things they taught me to build my own enterprise. It’s just starting but it will be amazing, and I can’t wait to continue on this path.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The effective strategy for growing my business is referrals. Good compliments after a closing are huge. I like to share them and blast them on my social a media platform. We are a new generation where we like to see reviews and feedback from others when looking to make a decision on a new company to work with or purchase an item. A title industry is the same, people like to research and see what others have reported when looking to work with a new Title agent. People do business with people they like and trust. This has been an effective way of growing my clientele. Referrals, referrals, referrals!!!
