Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anneka Davis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Anneka, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the best advice you ever gave to a client? How did they benefit / what was the result? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
The best advice I have ever given any of my clients is to trust themselves. Trusting yourself is empowering. I can say that a client most recently mentioned that by taking that advice it helped to build their confidence in themselves. They’ve been able to make positive decisions for their lives that they didn’t before getting that advice. It has helped to re-shape the relationships around them. They feel more in control of their own lives. They feel like they can begin to be more impactful themselves. Also they’ve shared that they have shifted their way of thinking and it brought about holistic and sustainable change.
Anneka, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Mental Health Therapist. I have been in this field for 30 years. As soon As I left high school I knew that I wanted to focus on the psychology of people. I wanted to know what made people tick. I grew up with mental illness all around me and I wanted to figure out how I could help. I decided to get my undergrad in Psychology. Years later I went back to get my Master’s degree is Social Work. I then became a licensed Social Worker in two states. I enjoy every minute I get the opportunity to pour into someone’s life in order to promote sustainable transformation.
In 2019 I wrote my first book, My Complete 180. In the book I detail my experience in a Domestic Violence relationship and how I used that experience to create a 3 step strategy to not only show other victims that they can become thrivers, but to show others that they too can transform the way they live if they follow the strategies.
What sets me apart from others is my unyielding pursuit to continually grow. I refuse to stay stagnant. I want to give my client the very best of me. I promote an environment that is caring, understanding and non judgmental. I use a person centered and solution focused approach to help my clients move from anxious and afraid to strong and motivated.
The thing I am most proud of is breaking through barriers in my life that were meant to hold me back and hold me down. I’m a very determined woman.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been me showing up as a human. I show my clients that I am a real person. I share certain parts of myself that I feel are relevant and can contribute to their growth.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
What has been most helpful in succeeding in my field has been my passion. I am passionate about what I do and it’s what keeps me focused. My passion is what brings a about therapeutic renewal processes. I’m able to tap into what’s been inside of me for 30 years and it keeps me driven to help each client live the life they deserve on their terms.
