We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Anna Velasco a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Anna , thanks for joining us today. So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
If I were to start over today the one thing I would say to myself “don’t be afraid, try something new” I started making just blankets and after one year I decided to try something new, today I’m making stuff animals just by looking at a picture and recreating it. I have so much fun doing it I wish I started sooner.

Anna , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Do to COVID work was slow. Do to this it gave me the time to try out something new. I watched a video about hand knitting and I found it so interesting, the very next day I went to the store and bought chunky yarn and made my first blanket. I custom make blankets, slippers, scarves, hats and stuff animals, all outta yarn. I also started making car freshies (car scents). Everything is custom made to customers specifications from scent to image. I always want my clients to be happy and have a great buying experience.
Example; I made slippers and they turn out to be too small. I immediately created another one and asked the client to try them to make sure they fit right. So thanks to this experience I ask my clients to try them before they leave. I think what sets me apart is my turn around time. I make sure to have my products ready in a shorter time. I’m very proud of the final product. I put my heart into everything I created and it shows when the client has a big smile and is so happy.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I participate in vendor markets in different locations in my area I find that to be the best source for new clients for me.

How did you build your audience on social media?
In order to build my audience in social media I have to post content not only about my product. I engage with my audience as if they are my friends because that’s how I feel about them. My advice to the new entrepreneurs is take your time know what you want to say to your audience and engage with them, have fun with it. Not every post has to be serious. Have fun with it.
