We were lucky to catch up with Anna Stallmann recently and have shared our conversation below.
Anna, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry.
Integrating digital marketing, public relations, and creative design into a cohesive strategy is like orchestrating a symphony where each instrument plays a vital role in creating a harmonious melody. In today’s fast-paced digital landscape, the convergence of these elements is not just desirable but essential for a brand’s success.
Digital marketing ensures a strong online presence, public relations cultivates a positive brand image, and creative design captivates the audience visually. When seamlessly woven together, these components form a powerful narrative that resonates across all external communication channels. Consistency is key, and an integrated approach ensures that the brand speaks with one voice, conveying a unified message that enhances credibility and builds trust.
It’s not merely about being present on various platforms; it’s about crafting a holistic brand experience that leaves a lasting impression, fostering brand loyalty in an era where consumer attention is a precious commodity.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Anna Stallmann Communications is a full-service, strategic communications firm strongly rooted in our clients’ success. Rather than adapting them to our services, we build them a plan to build their communications toolbox uniquely tailored to them. We believe there is never a one-size-fits-all approach to communications, and what might work for one client – very well may not work for another. We factor in all the ways a brand might reach its audiences, and determine what works best for them. From there, we engage the right partners and right resources to activate that plan. For us, that means ASC is at the center spoke of our clients’ communications activities – ensuring each spoke is working harmoniously together.
This model accidentally launched when I started off in 2021 as a freelance consultant. While picking up a few client engagements, I quickly realized that my strengths weren’t always what my client needed. However – I knew whose strengths would help them. And lucky for these clients, many of these individuals were doing exactly what I did – left a large agency or corporate job to go off on their own.
Today, Anna Stallmann Communications has a full-time staff of about 10, but works with more than a dozen freelance partners and small agencies to build exactly the right team for every engagement. We are masters at collaboration — and never let a fear of competition get in the way of our clients’ success.
As a result, we have longstanding client relationships and are that trusted center spoke of their communications strategies – delivering both tactical execution across digital marketing, creative design and public relations AND bold communication strategies that deliver against their business goals.
We are collaborative, supportive and fun to work with. We also rarely will say no — always looking for solutions to the most challenging problems.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Putting your name on the business might seem like an easy answer to trying to name a company. But for me, it was more than just an accident – it was rooted in accountability.
When clients come to Anna Stallmann Communications, they know we are likewise invested in their success and brand reputation – because our name is at stake too. We treat our clients brands as if they were our own, and judiciously advise on campaign budgets with an eye towards their overall bottom line.
We do more than just deliver a service. We are extremely proud of the trusted relationships we have built with our clients — that have also led to friendships.
Any advice for managing a team?
When running a remote business with team members spread out across the country, it is important to foster a culture of strong communication and trust. We don’t require our team to sit on video conferencing all day — or instill a fear of being 5-minutes late to reading a google chat.
Instead, we build in a culture of accountability, trust and radical flexibility. We want our team to find their groove in work — and build an environment that encourages them to do their best work.
For us, this means no set or standard work hours — but a commitment to standing team meetings that rarely anyone ever misses. It means providing communications infrastructure that enables asynchronous work methods — ensuring all information is accessible to every team member and never putting one person as the single point of contact or action.
We want our team to feel empowered to act, deliver and make an impact. We want them to see the fruits of their labor. We want them to succeed!
In order to do that, we have to let go of the reins and give every person the opportunity to lead. Accountability to each other and our clients is at the very center of this.
