Alright, Anna thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
As a Florida Title Insurance Agent, REALTOR®, and someone deeply committed to education, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges many individuals face when it comes to understanding the financial responsibilities that come with adulthood. One of the most significant yet overlooked aspects of financial literacy is the process of purchasing a home. This life milestone, which many aspire to, is often approached with minimal knowledge, leading to stress, poor decisions, and financial strain. If I had the opportunity to influence the school system, I would push for a curriculum that goes beyond the basics. I’d want students to learn not just how to buy a home, but also the vital financial skills that often get overlooked, like how to open and manage a bank account, understand credit from an early age, and master the art of budgeting. By equipping them with these tools, we can help them maintain a strong credit score and build a solid financial foundation just by knowing how it all works.
Buying a home is one of the most significant financial investment decisions a person will make in their lifetime. Despite its importance, this topic is rarely covered in school, leaving young adults unprepared for the complexities involved. From understanding mortgage options and interest rates to navigating the closing process, these are all critical elements that should be taught early on. By integrating home-buying education into the school curriculum, we can equip students with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions, avoid common pitfalls, and ultimately achieve the goal of homeownership with confidence.
Beyond the home-buying process, there are numerous other financial skills that are crucial for independent growth. Simple tasks like opening a bank account, understanding how to manage it, budgeting, and even the basics of credit are foundational to a secure financial future. These skills are not just about managing money—they are about fostering independence, accountability, and the knowledge to make informed choices that prepare students for their future. Financial stability is a cornerstone of family planning. When individuals are equipped with the knowledge of how to manage their finances, including how to purchase a home, they are better prepared to support and grow a family. The ability to make informed decisions about housing, savings, and investments directly impacts the well-being of their future family. It is time to rethink our approach to education. My journey into real estate and title insurance began with nothing more than a curious mind and a chance for employment. In my early 20’s, an attorney in Boca Raton, Florida, offered me a job opportunity—not for the job I had interviewed for, but for a role he believed I was meant to fill. That moment set the stage for a career I’ve passionately pursued ever since. I had no experience, but I was determined to learn. I immersed myself in every aspect of the real estate industry, driven by a desire to help people navigate some of the most significant decisions of their lives. From buying and selling properties to ensuring clear titles, I dedicated myself to becoming a trusted professional in Florida.
In the early 2000s, I founded, Chain of Title, a national title company, an endeavor that allowed me to expand my knowledge and expertise even further. However, like many others, my company was deeply affected by the 2008 financial crash, leading to its closure. This challenging experience was a pivotal moment in my career, teaching me resilience and the importance of adaptability in an ever-changing market. Determined to continue helping clients, I pivoted into financial planning, earning my Series 7, Series 66, and Life Health and Annuity licenses. This transition gave me a fresh perspective on financial security and led me back to pursue my passion in Title Insurance. Returning to title insurance felt like coming home, but with a renewed sense of purpose. Today, I’m proud to introduce myself as the founder and owner of Modern Day Title. I offer a comprehensive range of professional services as both a licensed Florida REALTOR® and title insurance agent. My commitment to education and transparency ensures that my clients are well-informed and confident throughout the entire process.
My motivation comes from building enduring relationships with clients, colleagues, and industry partners. Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
As someone who has spent years in the real estate and title insurance industry, I’ve always been driven by a passion for education and helping others succeed. Throughout my career, I’ve seen firsthand how overwhelming the process of buying a home can be, especially for those who are new to it. This realization inspired me to shift my focus and create a platform dedicated to making the home-buying journey easier and more accessible for everyone.
In my work as a Florida Title Insurance Agent and REALTOR®, I noticed a common thread among many of the clients I encountered: they were eager to buy a home, but they often lacked the essential knowledge to navigate the process confidently. This gap in understanding frequently led to stress, mistakes, and even missed opportunities. I knew that with the right education and resources, people could approach buying a home with confidence and clarity. That’s when the idea for “The Closing Process Roadmap” began to take shape in my mind. I wanted to share my knowledge and experience with others to help them avoid the pitfalls and confusion that so many homebuyers face. Drawing from my years of experience in real estate, title insurance, and financial planning, I developed a series of courses that cover every aspect of the home-buying process—from understanding mortgage options to closing the deal. I didn’t want just another online course. I wanted it to be a community where people could learn, connect, and support each other. The courses are designed to be engaging and practical, filled with real-world examples that students can relate to and apply in their own lives. Through the online platform, I’m passionate about empowering the next generation of homeowners. Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I’ve been in the Title Insurance Industry in Florida for about 25 years, I decided a few years back to expand my expertise and curiosity by becoming a licensed REALTOR®. My journey in real estate began with a deep understanding of the title process, which is such a critical part of any real estate transaction. I realized that by also becoming a REALTOR®, I could offer a truly comprehensive service to my clients and provide better value when working through a Title file or in a Real Estate transaction. I have always been a problem solver even if it wasn’t my problem to solve. I take initiative and tackle challenges head-on with a proactive and willing approach. The reason behind this has never been for me, whether as a Title Insurance Agent or REALTOR®. It’s ALWAYS for the Buyers and the Sellers in the transaction. All parties involved are merely there to help assist the Buyer and Seller to Buy and Sell a certain house.
My expertise of both a Title Insurance Agent and a REALTOR® has made me somewhat of a unicorn in this industry. I have the unique ability to guide my clients through the entire real estate process—from the initial onset of getting them prepared to be Lender Ready through an Educational Online Platform that I created, onto the house hunting stage, and ending the transaction at the closing table ensuring that everything is properly protected. A key milestone in this journey was when I first decided to get my real estate license. After years and years and years in title insurance, I knew the ins and outs of closing transactions, but I wanted to be involved from the very beginning of the process. Handling a transaction as both the REALTOR® and Title Agent is a powerful reminder that my decision was the right one.
Over time, my dual expertise has allowed me to build strong, trusting relationships with my clients. The ability to manage every aspect of a real estate transaction, from education, to the first showing then to the final signature, has set me apart and helped scale my business.
