Anna Rose, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?

My name is Anna Rose. I am the woman behind the camera for my business Anna Rose 8mm. Growing up I was fascinated by the film photos my relatives shared with me, specifically those of their wedding day.

Once I was able to get my hands on a film camera, I began documenting my life through my friends and our surroundings. I felt such excitement every time my photos were ready for pickup. This excitement blossomed into a growing interest in other forms of film photography.

I remember the first time I watched a Super 8 film. I came across a film of my favorite surfer Jaleesa Vincent, Tuckeroo, by creator Patti, where they used both digital and film footage. Every time the video switched over to film, I was amazed by how beautifully the colors came out and how the vivid personality of Jaleesa shone through. It felt far more special to watch the film through this lens. This is when I was first inspired to pursue this form of video creation.

My journey with Super 8 began as experimental yet intentional. Once I picked up my first Super 8 camera, I learned its methods and quirks as I went. I learned from my mistakes and found beauty in them. For my first film, I allowed my surroundings to inspire me and picked up my camera whenever I found something beautiful. My loved ones talking, a stranger petting their dog on the beach, the snapped surfboards decorating a backyard fence, or my boyfriend driving us down the coast.

When I received the email with the file of my first Super 8 film, my stomach turned with nerves and excitement. I felt an overwhelming rush of emotions when I opened the file. The nostalgia the images evoked was incredible. As I watched the video play with my roommates by my side, we actually shed a few tears just watching how beautiful our friends and lives were.

From that moment I knew that this was unlike any other form of photography. It was much more special.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

I am so grateful that I have found Super 8 videography as it provides a creative outlet in which I can express my emotions and share my story. I am excited about what the future holds. I look forward to creating everlasting memories for those I work with. At the end of the day, my dream is truly to make people feel the emotions I felt when I watched my first Super 8 video!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

I want to use this unique format to create an extremely special, intimate time capsule of people’s day celebrating their love for each other. I want those I create for to be able to access not only their memories but their emotions felt on that day.
