We were lucky to catch up with Anna Resende recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Anna, thanks for joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
I got a Chemical Engineering degree back in 1995 and worked in the manufacturing industry for the following 27 years, most of the time with continuous improvement. My husband is also a chemical engineer and during his career ascendance in a multinational company, we were invited to move many times. I was always able to find myself a position during all the many moves except one time. During my job search before our most recent move to Tennessee, I couldn’t find a job as an Engineer. Looking back now, I consider that as a defining moment. I was frustrated and couldn’t understand why that was possible considering my good reputation and recommendations from former managers. It was when I was expressing my feelings to a former colleague of mine that the whole career path completely changed for me.
My colleague, who was also frustrated by the turn of events with my job search, suggested I check into Health Coaching. I didn’t know what that entailed but, shortly after my research, I came across the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, IIN, and my whole life turned upside-down. When I laid eyes on IIN’s Health Coach Training Program curriculum it was love at first sight. All the things that I’m passionate about were listed there, I felt as if the program was tailored for me. Two days later I was registered and 6 months later graduated.
I now understand that the universe had orchestrated the whole career change for me. It had closed one door to open a gateway for a profound life transformation. During the training, I had many signs of the new path as my true life’s mission. As the training progressed, I was certain that I’d found my calling. My years working as a continuous improvement engineer had just been a setup for my health coaching career. Now I’m living my best life, doing only what I love and still helping people along the way. In Health Coaching I found a combination of all my passions and a way to use my expertise for a greater purpose – I’m now looking for the root causes of diseases and improving clients’ health instead of improving manufacturing processes and looking for root causes of failures.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Health Coaching is not a job but my life’s mission. It combines my passions for nutrition, gardening, cooking, mindful movement, and a healthy lifestyle.
My signature program – Nature Walk, is an invitation to (re)connect with nature, mind, body, spirit, and community for nourishment and healing. Nature walk symbolizes a walk back home, to our roots, our essence. I’ll guide my clients to create their wellness vision and establish wellness goals. Then we’ll work together on uncovering the root causes of current imbalances and create action steps to reestablish balance and sustain it. The goal is to find a lifestyle that will help them achieve their health and wellness goals through good nutrition and holistic practices to manage stress.
I do offer 1×1 health coaching and group coaching for corporate businesses and young adults.
I’m also a writer! I have a blog and just finished the first draft of my first book that will be published in the first quarter of 2025 – which I’m very proud of!

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Coaching requires a great deal of empathy and listening skills. Also, as a solopreneur resilience and perseverance are essential.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Many books have impacted my management thinking. There is the classic 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey that is still current and the most recent one I read is What Are You Hungry For by Deepak Chopra which touches deeply on self-knowledge and the importance of empathy.
