We recently connected with Anna Quach and have shared our conversation below.
Anna , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I am beyond happy and grateful to be an artist and creative professional. I feel very blessed to be able to do what I love and have the opportunity to play a part in people’s lives by creating things for their homes or special occasions. In addition, my career allows me to collaborate with like-minded, talented, and passionate artists in the wedding, graphic design, and home design industries on a daily basis.
After I graduated from UCLA, I worked as an Assistant Buyer at a home furnishing and decor company, and gained experience working in the corporate environment. Even though I will look back at that time with fond memories of working with and learning from talented professionals, I am grateful for my career as an independent small business owner and designer.
Being an artist has allowed me to cultivate my creative spirit while being able to set my schedule and spend more time with my family outside the bounds of a “regular” 9-to-5 job. I am very blessed to be able to do what I love and surround myself with a community of artists and customers who teach and inspire me every day.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started my company – La Design Boutique – after I got married, and started a family. I initially focused on designing wedding invitations online, and shortly after my company website was launched, I was approached by a publisher to design art for retail stores, which resulted in my wedding stationery business transforming into a graphic design studio. Throughout the last 15 years, I’ve had the opportunity and honor of providing graphic design services for small businesses and large corporate organizations who seek my expertise in logo design, branding, and marketing.
My top priority in everything I do is to provide my clients and collaborators with the highest level of customer service to ensure everyone feels included and essential throughout the design process. Throughout the years, trends and styles have changed, but one thing always remains the same – customers need to trust that I care as much about their special event as I do about them, their unique story, and their vision. I take pride in the reviews I get from my clients because their happiness is what really matters to me and why I do what I do.
It’s such an honor for me to be able to work extremely closely with my clients throughout the design process and to ensure the final products are exactly what they envisioned and dreamed of down to every single detail. I may play a small role in the final outcome, but I want everyone to know that they play a huge role in my success.
I am proud to say after more than 20 years of being an artist, I still love my job.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Like many others, the COVID-19 pandemic was a time when I had to pivot my business, services and products since weddings and special events were all being canceled, and the demand for invitations and event signage came to a screeching halt.
While the world was on lockdown, the home decor industry began to thrive. Since everyone was confined to their homes, a surge in home renovations grew, and I was able to focus more on designing home décor and art.
Simultaneously, I also ventured into creating downloadable activity kits for kids to print and play with at home. These downloadable and easily accessible kits were very popular with parents who wanted to provide both entertainment and education for their children.
In addition, many aspiring entrepreneurs embraced the pandemic as an opportunity to launch their new business or refresh their existing business. In this capacity, I was able to assist them with logos, branding, and digital marketing graphics.
Amidst the global pandemic, I felt truly honored to still be able to make a positive impact on my clients, who consisted of families, homeowners, business owners, and fellow artists. Personally and professionally, I was also able to connect and collaborate with old and new creatives and artists to provide them services and to lend support and encouragement.
For me, this experience will forever resonate as a testament to the resilience of creatives and their adaptability in times of crisis.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission has always been to inspire others through my designs. Whether it is with a simple save the date for an event, special engagement/birth announcement, company brand, or wall art, I want my design to elicit joy for my clients. Designs should always create and drive a connection between the product and the person. I always use the term “labor of love” because every project I take on is my labor of love, and I always want my clients and fellow artists to know that I’m committed to making us all succeed – together.
