Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anna Pettit. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Anna, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I feel that success can be measured in multiple ways, all of which can vary depending on the individual. That’s the beauty of success. For some success can be marked as completing a small task, to others it may be a linear progression. There have been so many goals that I have been fortunate to reach and all of them have changed my view on success. First it was have my very first photoshoot, then it was making my clients feel comfortable during sessions, building clientele, shooting my very first wedding, the list goes on and on. Hard work and perseverance helped push me to each milestone. There were many failures along the way and will continue to be bumps along the road to my future journeys. Looking back from the very beginning and seeing the amount of growth is inspiring. I wouldn’t have been able to grow if it wasn’t for my wonderful clients, its bittersweet to see returning faces through the years. Overall, success is something that we all can achieve, we just have to believe in ourselves!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi! I’m Anna Pettit. I’m the owner and photographer at AnnaBeth Photography. I have been doing photography for a little over 5 years now and am forever thankful I embarked on this journey. I initially got into photography in high school, itching to shoot senior friends, then eventually worked my way into couples and families. I am now currently branching into the wedding industry as well!
I want all my clients to feel comfortable in front of the camera, I understand it can feel awkward at times! I try to help my clients enjoy fun prompts they begin to open up, not to mention I’m your personal HYPE squad. My clients aren’t just my clients, they become friends and family. What may have started out as a senior photoshoot, leading to couples, then engagement, to marriage, I am honored I get to help capture some of my clients most important life events. Knowing that they trust and support me to follow along their life truly means the world.
My hope is that all future clients know that it is my job to help you feel welcome, loved, and grinning ear to ear after every session. I’m a person too and want to help cultivate that genuine connection. It not only helps you feel better, but makes for awesome pictures! Have any ideas, I’d love to help create that moment WITH you!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a creative is having the ability to to help bring to life not only my visions, but client’s dreams as well. Often times I find myself inspired by the little things in life, like holding hands or authentic laughs. Portrait photography allows room for creativity. I try to explore out of my comfort zone and create a “creative shoot”, this helps my thoughts and inner artist explore. Every photoshoot is different, from the weather, to my clients outfits, all of which I am able to take in and create something from what many people would deem as nothing.
One of my favorite things about being a photographer is seeing my clients love my work. It is so heart warming to be on social media and seeing my clients share my work, as well as express how much they loved working with me. It makes me smile as I scroll through and see their profile pictures as the one I took, or seeing my work framed in client’s living rooms, etc. I honor my work and to see that others love it as much as I do inspires me to continue!
How did you build your audience on social media?
Now days Social Media tends to be everywhere, it dictates a lot of business’s clientele. Consumers find their ideal person to choose from through a simple hashtag or even google search.
AnnaBeth Photography initially began on Instagram and Facebook. I followed my family and friends. I then created a website, which drastically helped my business grow. I was able to organize everything on the website to make it easily accessible for potential clients. As the years progressed, I gained a higher following by posting often and by using hashtags to help others find me easier. I also made more creative friends through the years and have created fellow photographer connections, which has resulted in several opportunities of growth. Now social media is focused on a short video shift, and by educating myself on different marketing techniques involving algorithms I have been able to gain followers through that as well. Trying to stay relevant and up to date on “trends” can help your audience grow too.
