Alright, Anna thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

Our mission has always been to bring herbalism to the masses. This is a very important mission to us because so many people don’t know the power behind plant medicine. It can be a primary modality of medicine that focuses on healing rather than covering up symptoms. Plant medicine is a way to give healing power back to the people that is not only affordable, but focuses on whole body well-being. The earth provides everything we need to heal our bodies and we want to teach people about these plants and how to be self sustaining with their own healthcare. We have a love for the earth and all living within it. We want everyone to know how amazing this earth is and how we are all able to subsist and survive with all this planet has to provide.

Anna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Anna’s apothecary was the brain child of two sisters. We had an idea back in 2012 to marry Anna’s knowledge of herbalism with Sara’s knowledge of gardening and permaculture and create an all organic, herbal apothecary. Our main focus in the early years was on herbal medicine, but throughout the years we put emphasis on organic, preservative free beauty products, essential oils and salves, as well. We work with only the highest quality ingredients to bring superior products to our clients. We work with people, and on occasion pets to help bring healing and harmony to the body. We help people with issues such as, allergies, stress, anxiety, detoxification, sleep, hormonal balancing, adrenal health, respiratory health and cardiovascular health just to name a few. We have successfully helped thousands of people over the years to heal chronic and acute illness and bring general health and balance to the body. All of our medicinal blends are formulated by Anna who works a lot with plant synergists and energies to bring the most balanced blends to our clients that cannot be found anywhere else.
Our entire staff is educated and trained in herbalism and are able to advise and help all of our clients. We create an experience when coming into our shop from the 150 bulk herb wall to the amazing smells from all of our products. All of our products are made in house using the highest standards in production. We are inclusive to all people and love working with and helping people to achieve their health goals.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?

We have always used one fundamental principal when it comes to funding our business and that is, start small and build off your successes. We started our business at farmers markets and when we began to grow we moved into a brick and mortar. We have remained primarily debt free throughout the life our our business. Going into horrible debt to start a business can be a recipe for failure, so we always recommend to grow organically instead of spending money to have a lot of product initially. We had only 7 products when we started the apothecary and over the last 12 years of business we have grown our products as the success of the business dictates. You don’t have to have a ton of product to be successful, but rather high quality products that speak for themselves.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

What helped to build our reputation within our market was our attention to detail, high quality products, knowledgeable staff, and excellent customer service. Our knowledge about plants and their healing powers, as well as the ability to formulate our own unique blends has set us apart from other apothecaries. We put a lot of love into our staff and our product and I believe that shines through to our clients. We make all clients feel welcome and work hard to create a magical, one of a kind experience to all who come through our doors.
