We recently connected with Anna & Pankaj Chaudhary and have shared our conversation below.
Anna & Pankaj, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
We had a child March 12, 2020 and our lives changed forever. From both working in an office, myself at the university and my husband in the Robotics industry, we found ourselves working from home for the first time every day. We started to imagine what it would be like to spend more time with our daughter. What alternatives were there to day care? What was out there for the remote working parent? We found that others’ were asking these questions as well and didn’t find what they were looking for.
We also are both well traveled and I spent some time in South Africa when my sister’s children were little. She had so many options to go out with friends and have a cup of coffee while her kids played on a playground nearby with an employee keeping an eye on them. I realized very quickly that this option didn’t exist anywhere and so we talked about it quite often.
Then one day, we decided to hash out this idea weekly with a few friends. Soon we found ourselves with business partners and the dream became a reality!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Beanstalk HQ was conceived in January 2024, born from a vision to create family-friendly spaces in Pittsburgh where parents could work productively while their children were supervised. The concept emerged from our founders’ personal experiences as parents in 2020, surrounded by young families seeking innovative solutions to balance work and childcare. Our team of four recognized that Pittsburgh’s evolving workforce and family dynamics created a unique opportunity to address pressing family needs through innovative support systems.
As remote work opportunities increased, we identified a growing trend of parents attempting to juggle full-time work with full-time childcare at home. This challenging balancing act, while increasingly common, often leads to exhaustion and burnout. As tech innovators, engineers, educators, and parents ourselves, we’ve experienced firsthand the pressure to excel in both professional and personal spheres.
Our concept evolved from discussions that began in January 2024, gaining momentum as the year progressed. We formalized our vision through extensive market research, community engagement and established the LLC in August 2024. Driven by a shared commitment to creating a supportive environment for Pittsburgh families, we founded Beanstalk HQ to transform how families live, work, and contribute to our community’s economic vitality and well-being.

Have you ever had to pivot?
We learned pretty quickly that we needed multiple revenue streams to make Beanstalk HQ a success. Our main goal was to create a family friendly co-working space. However, our space is essentially not used on the weekends and evenings and we realized that we also needed to focus on selling birthday parties. Being able to have a beautiful space for birthday parties has been a blessing that was on the backburner but became much more important to raise awareness of Beanstalk and to have another revenue stream.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Starting from scratch, Social Media has been our best form of free advertisement. One of the best ways to advertise on Facebook is to become members of different community groups and post in these forums. When we are consistently posting in these groups, our posts get over 500 views.
