We were lucky to catch up with Anna Narinian recently and have shared our conversation below.
Anna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Our journey to find the perfect name for our brand, D’CARAMEL, was a blend of humor and determination. We started with practical considerations, aiming for a name available as a domain and for trademarking.
The inclusion of “D'” pays homage to French culture, adding a dash of elegance and charm. It’s a nod to the French “de,” which can signify ownership or association, lending our brand an air of distinction and refinement. Meanwhile, “caramel” needs no introduction—it’s a flavor beloved by many, evoking warmth, sweetness, and indulgence. By combining these elements, we’ve created a name that not only rolls off the tongue but also hints at the irresistible allure of our products.
After a winding path of brainstorming, D’CARAMEL emerged—a blend of French sophistication and the sweetness of caramel. It’s a name that not only sounds delightful but also reflects our brand’s essence.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Pastry was always my passion since I was in school and I always was dreaming to open my own pastry shop where I can craft deserts based on my vision how deserts should looks like and how they should be tasted. I keep working and experimenting over last 20 years, took a lot of classes, trained with top pastry chefs in the world to make it happen. Finally once we decided where we want to be – It took us 3 years to open our first flagman store in Southlake where we created everything from scratch, starting from design and open kitchen concept and finishing all the processes, sign contracts, remodel existing space and getting ready. And this is only beginning of our journey.
Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
We take pride in crafting our Viennoiserie products from scratch in-house, rolled by hand. Our meticulous process includes a long fermentation process to achieve the perfect balance of crunchiness and rich buttery flavor. Everything is baked daily with limited stock to ensure freshness. As we create our line of desserts, we strive to infuse a modern twist into classic French favorites, offering a fresh and innovative take on these time-honored treats.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Our reputation within the market has been shaped by several factors I believe. Firstly, our commitment to delivering high-quality products has been essential. We use only the finest premium ingredients in our products, including Belgian chocolate, Madagascar vanilla beans, French butter, and locally-sourced dairy products from Texas. Consistency in quality has helped us earn the trust of our customers and establish ourselves as a reliable choice.
Additionally, our ability to innovate and adapt to changing trends has been crucial. By staying ahead of the curve and offering unique products, we’ve been able to differentiate ourselves and maintain relevance in a competitive landscape.
