We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Anna Mayer a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Anna, thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Growing up, I would always monkey around with iMovie on my parent’s computer and make dumb videos. I had a lot of fun learning how to edit at a young age, and it acted as my creative outlet. When I started my channel, I researched other video editing software systems that I could use. Once I found one I liked I just played around with it until I got a good understanding. Watching videos on YouTube and utilizing Google helped me get a solid foundation for editing my videos today. Having a mentor would have helped speed up this learning process, but as I said, using google and youtube as my educator helped me build the skills I needed to produce entertaining videos.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have always been a fan of the paranormal and grew up watching Ghost Adventures. When I was younger, it was an adrenaline rush watching these shows because it genuinely scared me. As I grew older, the fear subsided, and interest took its place. One day in college I was bored and decided to order two pieces of ghost hunting equipment to try it out on my own. I was hooked from the start, and my passion grew. Since then, I have obtained a large amount of equipment for paranormal investigations and have uploaded these investigations to YouTube. Something that I think sets myself apart from others is that I like to investigate locations close to home, which is Duluth MN. We’ve investigated a lot of locations and have uploaded these videos onto youtube. There aren’t many paranormal YouTubers up north, so I like to share haunted locations with those who are interested in the rich history of Duluth.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I’d like to go to larger haunted locations such as prisons and abandoned hospitals which has been a huge motivator for me.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Utilizing other social media platforms and using YouTube shorts have been very helpful in growing my audience.
