We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Anna Konya a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Anna thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The quote that keeps me ongoing is the following “Remember who you are. And change the game. ” And is rooted in my story, which as I arrive to see is the story of most of us.
I am a visual artist, creating abstract art, and dedicating myself to helping those willing to learn more, and gain a deeper understanding of themselves through the tools given by colors, and shapes as an Art Therapist.
I was born in a Hungarian family ( ethnic minority ) in communist time in Transylvania, Romania. Life was harsh, and toughening up was considered a must to survive.
Being a highly sensitive person and intuitive empath in our society it is still considered a weakness, something that has to be cured, otherwise, the person will not be able to make it in this life.
We all grow up and unlearn and forget our natural way of being. In different degrees, we undress, or better say suppress our true selves, hide, and deny amazing abilities, our sensitivity, and our God-given self because it is not accepted by the family, or community, or simply because we are afraid not fit in the norm. I always say that childhood is the time when our survival ability is tested at its maximum. We created coping mechanisms, that served us to arrive in one way or another to adulthood.
“Remember who you are. ” in my case was crucial. As a child, I loved creating and drawing painting, but my artistic, and sensitive way was not encouraged or supported. Often teased, not to say bullied, I learned quite fast not to be myself.
Willing to be the good girl, the good woman I thought I must, for being loved and accepted, I slowly changed toughened up, and forgot about my deepest truth. Lived a life that made everyone around me happy, except myself. In my early thirties, I was diagnosed with a tumor in my head. The event that shook my reality at that time, turned out to be the blessing that came to save me. The healing, the slow journey of returning to myself started. A journey of remembering who I am, and fighting for that Me to come to the surface, give space, acknowledge, and embrace. Learning to Love, allow feelings, embrace my sensitivity, be a highly intuitive empath, and Be unapologetically myself saved my life.
I am firmly convinced that everyone has a story, and an amazing self is hidden deep within waiting to be remembered, and change the game, change the narrative of their lives.
Anna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Often we hear the quote, Love what you do. Do what you Love. But my experience was that for the majority, this is just a quote. Fear, limiting beliefs, and many other reasons are behind everyone’s choices.
Fact is, that not many dare to embark on a journey driven by the deepness of their true desire. I was once one of those who never dared.
But then life presented me a way to return to myself, to boldly choose to do what I am, and what I Love. And that is Intuitive Art Making, and offering my knowledge and gentle guidance as an Art Therapist.
Creating Intuitively in my perception equals channeling, being a spiritual tool of something greater than our limited rational mind could enhance.
My Art comes to make you feel alive and to be safe in that vibration. While our society is dissolving into numbness and monochrome, I arrive colorful and versatile willing to make you Feel. Feel Alive Again, and provoke you to change your perception about the power of Love.
Light-coded, filled with layers of Love, a language of colors coming to fill up the space, the room, fill up your days with light.
An original and unique artwork on the wall gives soul to it, and meaning to it.
With my personal story behind every artwork, it is your perfect reminder that healing and change are possible. The perfect reminder that You are beautiful, smart and You matter. An artwork delivered by me reminds you to tap into your inner power, trust your intuition, and believe in that voice within You. Know that You are capable and worthy.
Investing in an original artwork is investing in your Soul in Your Life.
As an Art Therapist, I’m here to guide and hold the space while you embark on a journey of a better understanding of yourself. My motivation comes from that genuine urge to show everyone what an amazing, brilliant, beautiful, and powerful human is hidden behind the veil of childhood trauma, of a wounded inner child. My purpose is to help undress layers of limiting beliefs open the door and change your perception of yourself. Art making, the colors, and the conversation born during the sessions provide you with tools to ease and navigate you through everyday life.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Intuition is our innate ability. There is no exception. Creativity exists in every one of us. People who consider themselves noncreative think that Art as therapy is not the right tool for them. A limiting belief, manifesting in different learned behaviors. Higher intellect is often followed by disbelief and mistrust of intuition. Praise of the IQ and complete neglect of the EQ is a dangerous combination.
My advice is to be open and flexible, curious and daring.
The more rigid we are in our way of seeing the world, and the more strict our beliefs are the more likely we are on the wrong path.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being authentically myself is the most rewarding. More I am me, more I allow my creativity to flourish, the happier I am becoming. Peace is another aspect of my life that arrived as soon as I embraced my true self. I am an artist, and I do my Art in my way, I do my life in my way and more I’m doing it so, more at peace I am. Being at peace is highly underrated.
Rewarding is the spark of deep connection, and awareness in the eyes of my clients. Either if is by purchasing artwork or attending therapeutic sessions, seeing a fellow person growing, changing, and healing is the ultimate joy.
