We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Anna Herrin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Anna below.
Anna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Nicole and I always knew we wanted to build something together. We’ve been best friends and workout partners for years, and during the pandemic, we finally had the space to get serious about creating a business.
At first, we started designing sweatpants and robes—products we genuinely loved and wanted to wear—but the deeper we got into the process, the more we realized we were looking for something with more purpose and impact.
Around that time, we tried EMS—and it completely changed the way we thought about fitness. The technology was powerful. The way it activated the muscles was unlike anything we’d experienced before. We felt the difference right away—and we realized most people had no idea it even existed.
That’s when it clicked: this was our opportunity.
Nicole’s background is in tech, mine is in fitness and modeling—and EMS brought those two worlds together in the most unexpected but perfect way. It combined science and movement, innovation and wellness. Once we experienced it, we knew we wanted to be part of bringing it to more people.
From the beginning, it was clear this wasn’t just another workout—it was a smarter, more efficient way to train. And the fact that it wasn’t mainstream yet made it even more exciting.
We knew we could take something innovative and make it feel accessible, personalized, and empowering. And we’ve been building that vision ever since.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started The Studio EMS with my best friend and business partner, Nicole. When we launched, it was just the two of us—wearing all the hats and figuring things out as we went. Now we’ve grown to a team of around 25 and expanded far beyond just client sessions. What started as a fitness business has evolved into a much larger platform—we now work directly with individuals and other businesses to bring EMS into more communities in a meaningful way.
I’ve been in the fitness industry for over a decade, and I’ve tried everything. EMS immediately stood out to me—it’s efficient, it works, and it’s rooted in real science. The results speak for themselves. Whether someone is brand new to fitness or a professional athlete, we’ve seen this method help people get stronger, leaner, and more connected to their bodies in less time than traditional training.
What makes EMS so powerful—and what we love most—is that it works for all bodies. Different ages, sizes, ability levels. It meets people exactly where they are.
We also love helping other fitness professionals and business owners bring EMS into their studios. We offer teacher trainings, business checklists, and hands-on support to help them integrate the technology in a way that’s sustainable and effective. It’s been amazing to move beyond direct-to-consumer and into the B2B space where we can help others expand their offerings and grow.
When we first got into EMS, almost no one knew what it was. Now, we’ve watched the awareness grow, and we love being part of that—supporting people as they try it for the first time, or guiding them as they bring it into their own businesses.
If you’re even a little curious—whether it’s about training, recovery, or building EMS into your brand—we’re always happy to talk. We love what we do, and we love helping people succeed with it.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Nicole and I met in college, and from the start we had this great mix of fun and respect in our friendship. We’ve always communicated well, and we’ve both watched each other show up and put in the work across different phases of our careers. That built a really solid foundation of trust before we ever talked about starting something together.
Launching a business with your best friend is definitely a risk—we’ve had to have some real conversations and navigate tough moments—but overall, it’s brought us even closer. We have different strengths, and we trust each other fully. It’s a relationship unlike anything else, and it’s been one of the best parts of this journey.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Honestly, I feel like every day of running a small business is a pivot. I kind of mean that as a joke—but it’s also true. Things are constantly shifting. New challenges pop up, unexpected opportunities show up out of nowhere, and you have to be ready to move with them.
For me, the biggest lesson has been this: if you stay committed to growing—personally and professionally—you’re way more prepared when those moments come. I really believe in doing the work, staying flexible, and being clear on your vision. That way, when the right opportunity shows up, you’re ready to say yes without hesitation.
