Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anna Field . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Anna , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
In the 6th grade i was in chorus and we had a project to create a song using garage band. Chorus was my favorite class & I always loved to sing ever since I was small. My mother was a singer in a girl group and we used to harmonize & watched sound of music & other musicals.
In that class I got to explore my vocal range and learned to use my voice but specifically this project was what changed everything.
We had a week or so and i composed this song. I was so shy that I literally mumbled the words. We had a listening party and people got to vote on their favorite song and I entered anonymously and won in my class and got voted most likely to win a Grammy!
Anna , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m an indie artist in Atlanta. I got started doing backup vocals for local rappers after connecting with people on twitter back in 2013. I think I recorded my first song in a closet. While doing harmonies for money I discovered the guitar and wrote a lot on my own and eventually started putting myself out there and booking gigs. I recorded my first project which had a lot of folk, jazz & alternative influences. A lot of songs I wrote while babysitting as my day job.
Since then I’ve attended the Grammys, been in a national commercial for Lincoln, played locally, all from music and I finally feel like I’m in a place where I have access to make music whenever I want.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My ultimate goal is to show up as my full multidimensional self when I am creating and performing. And maybe the freedom I embody will allow someone else to feel something too and not feel alone in that. Music has the power to connect all that resonate, so I guess I’m also looking for my people and just share my message.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Society consumes so much music, art entertainment & often it feels like the artists are an afterthought to the art. I think the industry should pay artists down to the writers.
