We were lucky to catch up with Anna Carrejo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Anna, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I was raised in Brownsville Texas, a primarily hispanic city that borders Matamoros Mexico. My family and I moved to Austin from Brownsville almost 4 years ago. I felt Velas512 was a way to honor my heritage and past while being representing the city that has welcomed and embraced my family.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a full time teacher and mom. During the pandemic I found learning about candles, crystals, and all things having to do with intentions something that could provide an escape from all the uncertainty in the world. Candles helped me cope with the stresses in my life, and I wanted to help others cope with their own. That’s when I came up with the idea of Velas512.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
One way that I was able to build an audience on social media is by posting everything I do! Everything is content! Finding the right music and editing everything takes time, but when done right it’s gold!

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
I do make my own candles by hand. It’s a lot of trial and error. I am still working on perfecting my candles and the quality of my work. This is something that I am constantly trying to perfect.
