We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Anna Caro. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Anna below.
Alright, Anna thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
In the winter of 2021/2022, I decided to roll out virtual design services, and wanted to see if I could get impactful results while still working remotely with clients.
As a feng shui certified designer, I began working with a woman in Corpus Christi, TX while I was based in Nashville, TN. She was ready to sell her house – she felt like the energy was off, things just weren’t flowing, her boys were arguing and not sleeping great. She was a writer and illustrator at heart, but didn’t feel like she had a place to cultivate her work, and also had a primary bedroom that she just felt like was driving her crazy and she couldn’t relax in.
Enter MOTIV Interiors and our Feng Shui Consultation. With a few key shifts we completely transformed this client’s experience of home – and we did not even do any purchasing for this client, we just made recommendations for space planning and decorative elements, and relocated her existing items.
First we looked at the overall site placement of her home and identified some factors and remedies based upon the home’s location and surroundings. We also created harmony within using the 5 elements, cultivated a balance of masculine and feminine energies, and provided a better overall flow of energy throughout the space.
Pretty immediately after our final presentation, she began to implement a few key changes and her boys began sleeping through the night. They started getting along better, and we created a better overall flow just by moving around a few key pieces in her living spaces. Soon she and her husband fulfilled their goal of entertaining other families and just having a ball as the adults watched the kids run around and play. We created a visual connection between their two living spaces, keeping one more formal for the parents and the other more casual for the kids to enjoy.
We also balanced the masculine and feminine energies in the home just by making a few adjustments to window treatment usage and intentionally creating areas for both activity and rejuvenation. We chose the most auspicious location for her to write and illustrate, and she reconnected with her muse to publish a #1 Amazon bestseller within months.
We also used the guidance of the Bagua Map (which is like a chakra system for your home) to determine the energy shifts needed in the primary bedroom. There were also some things going on with mirror placement that were causing discomfort in that space, and we created more balance just by moving a few pieces around and adding a few key accessories to make it a more vibrant yet relaxing space. Let’s just say there’s more connection happening in the primary bedroom…and she feels restful and at peace at the end of the day when she just needs a rejuvenating space to relax away from her energetic boys.
So it was a big risk shifting into this new method of delivering our services, but I really did my best to make it an easy and fun process to follow for the client. They simply follow our self-guided site survey, and send in photographs and scans of their spaces. There’s a brief but informative questionnaire, and we combine all of that information with outdoor photos and information from Google Earth and their home’s numerology report.
I think I even surprised myself at how powerful this transformation was for not only the client, but for her entire family. And now she has this children’s book released that is not only giving children confidence but is supporting a charitable cause with its sales. So there’s been a ripple effect through supporting this one woman – she is now supporting her family, her community, and children all over the world with her rekindled passions and desires.
The influx of prosperity and flow has been so wonderful to witness, and just think of how many thousands of dollars this family saved by NOT relocating – not to mention the added stress and time of moving to a different home, potentially to just have the same issues repeat themselves in a different location.
I’m so thrilled to be able to offer this service remotely now, and it’s such a blessing to be able to support my clients in this way – no matter where they live. I’m glad I took the risk and created a seamless, easy to follow process that anyone can follow and get amazing transformational results from.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Sure, I’m a nature lover at heart. I grew up in the Rocky Mountains and now I call Tennessee home, so on the weekends you’ll find me hiking, kayaking, and enjoying the outdoors as much as possible. Nature is such a valuable teacher and healer, so it’s important to me to connect with that regularly.
I’m a musician and love to sing and write about life – I think it’s important to have more than one creative outlet because they inform one another and expand your creativity and inspiration.
I love Nashville, and enjoy being a part of this community. We have so many talented artists, musicians, and events to check out so there’s always something new to explore which I love about this city.
Anna Caro (founder and Principal Designer) is a Tennessee native who grew up in the Rocky Mountains, and has focused her design education and business around sustainable design principles. She is feng shui certified and a veteran of the hospitality industry in Nashville, with additional experience in real estate investment and both long and short term rental management.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I have had to unlearn the masculine energy framework of business – everything from the pace of work to the delivery of services and more. As a feminine energy woman, I really had to let go of what I had learned in the field of design and create a business flow that worked for me and supported my empathic nature rather than draining it.
So much of what we do as interior designers requires us to be in tune with our clients on an emotional, spiritual and mental level. You really have to step into their shoes and understand their pain and suffering in order to alchemize that into pure gold and create a design that is going to truly transform their life and give them unbridled freedom so they can step into their light and their divinity.
So in order to deliver that level and vibration of service, your business has to support you in a way that you’re giving from a place of overflow, not just churning out work and burning the candle at both ends. It’s a major paradigm shift that I think a lot of women entrepreneurs really struggle with and it’s also the key to long term success for any femme leader.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Yes, so to piggyback off of the last question, I highly recommend the book In the FLO by Alyssa Vitti. She teaches you about the 4 phases of the female hormone cycle, and offers a new framework for really planning your month around your cycle. This has been so lifechanging I can’t even begin to express my gratitude for her work.
When I stopped fighting against the natural changes in energy within my body, and began to harness my energy in this new way, my productivity/health/happiness all skyrocketed and new doors began opening left and right. I think we are taught to ignore our bodies and suppress our needs to fit into the masculine framework and mindset of work, work, work. Which works great for men, but it just pushes you into adrenal fatigue as a woman and it’s such a losing game.
This book taught me how to lean into my feminine energy and find better balance in all aspects of my life from work to exercise, social life and more. So grateful for Alyssa Vitti.
