We recently connected with Anna Bock Bastien and have shared our conversation below.
Anna , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with something countless entrepreneurs have had to figure out on the fly – how have you dealt with the rise of remote work?
The last two years have been challenging. During the pandemic I really didn’t do as many photo shoots in the field. I transition my business to do social media management for clients which turned out to be very successful and I was able to work from home. I was able to still give them photography content and creatively make their media stand out without being exposed as much. This intern was such a great add to my business as well as made it where I was able to work from home. The great thing about this is I turned a negative into a positive, my husband and I had a baby in 2021. Working from home and having a newborn is definitely a blessing and a challenge in itself. Now slowly I am back in the field doing photography as well as focusing on my media side of the business from home. I am grateful to have the clients that I have who have you me for the last few years and I am also grateful for our newborn. It is very true when they say when life gives you lemons make lemonade. We have turned a crazy last two years into the best blessing that I could’ve has happened to us. I think that during the pandemic it also made people think outside of the box when they no longer could rely on corporate America, you then ask yourself how can I make money from home how can I be my own boss. So I do think many people used the last two years wisely. When you have that much time to think and brainstorm it be silly not to come out with new ideas or a big shift in your career. I know I did and still looking forward to growing my career and my family.
Anna , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into photography around 15 years old I’ve been doing it for the last 20 years. Two references and through my work I’ve been able to gain a lot of referrals and new clients over the years. I focus on all types of photography from Models, to headshots, to media creation for business, & branding as well. I enjoyed doing baby shoots and family shoots. Now that I have started the social media management part of my business it is taking it to a whole new level. My husband is very helpful and also he helps get me clients as well as my sister-in-law who owns a cake business Think Of Sweets. It is always important to surround yourself with good people who have the same work ethic as you. Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
With social media I always tell people build it and they will come. With social media management you have to be consistent you cannot just post one day and then not post the next couple months. Whenever people are researching a company they always look to see if your media is current they wanna make sure your content is intriguing, bold, lots of color, and beautiful images. With new clients I always let them know it is always good to have yourself listed on all platforms Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Snapchat, and TikTok ect. The more organic /Seo placement you have the easier it is for people to find you. As well as having a good website. Make sure your name is consistent and the same on every platform.
The only regret that I have is that I wish that I would have started YouTube earlier because YouTube money is very good money if you do it properly. The best advice I would like to give people is make sure you work with a good photographer that gives you good quality content and photos and just be consistent. Just keep posting and keep at it and eventually the hard work will pay off nothing happens overnight it takes time to develope a good reputation and quality customers that keep coming back.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of doing something that you love is that every day when you go to work you are truly happy. Photography and media creation has always been a passion of mine so originally when it was a hobby I was very pleased that I could turn it into a business where I could make money as a career. I have work for many people and nothing is as satisfying as working for yourself. Now that I am married and have a baby I am truly blessed to be home working and make my own schedule. And most importantly able to be home with my baby every. It is truly but a blessing to be able to be my own boss and I am very thankful.
